With the summer months finally here, the annual Overwatch Summer Games event has finally arrived. As expected, the event brings back the special game mode Lucioball, where teams of 3 attempt to hit an oversized ball into the opposing team's goal. Busan Stadium, Sydney Harbour Arena, and Estadio das Ras also make their return from previous events. Of course, the Summer Games also bring about a ton of new cosmetics to collect as well.

Over the past few days, Blizzard had been teasing some of the new outfits available to players. Earlier this week, fans got a chance to take a look at a Mermaid inspired skin for Symmetra as well as the ice cream inspired Sprinkles Mei. Poolside Ashe has been particularly popular with the community with many fans pointing out the small details such as the shark charm on the Nerf style gun as well as the pool floatie on Bob's head. However, considering this is the fifth anniversary of the first event, Blizzard is giving players more ways to unlock content.

Throughout the three week event, Blizzard is adding in weekly challenges, something the developer has been doing lately with many of its unique seasonal events. Each week will task players with playing 9, 18, and then 27 games in total to unlock an icon, spray, and epic skin based around certain characters.

Week one focuses on Ocean King Winston who sports a golden crown with black armor and blue accents that look like fish scales. Week 2 is dedicated to Sunset Pharah, who's armor features a fade look from red to orange to yellow at her feet with a flower pattern as well as wood accents. Finally, week 3 is Nihon Hanzo with a white and red color pattern with a tree pattern going up from his legs. These outfits, along with the previous revealed ones, round out the new set of Overwatch skins with Referee Orisa and Scuba Sigma.

In addition to new cosmetic items, the event brings back the more chaotic version of Lucioball. The remix mode is a faster version with two balls in play instead of just one. Periodically throughout a match, a bonus ball will also spawn in and is worth extra points for the team that scores.

As the wait for Overwatch 2 continues, fan imagination continues to run wild throughout the community. In fact, some fans have already presented some intriguing concepts for a future Summer Games event some of which may have inspired Blizzard artists for this year's version. Ice Cream May and a Swimsuit Ashe design made the rounds a few weeks ago and likely offered inspiration for the newly revealed Sprinkles May and Poolside Ashe.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
