A recent leak suggests that Overwatch may be coming to Switch, thanks to an Amazon posting for an Overwatch-themed Switch travel case. It has enjoyed a hearty life as a fun casual competitive shooter and viable esport, since its launch in 2016 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The game has not received any port work of any sort to a platform it did launch on (but Overwatch clones have popped up), so the Switch would be the first if this listing indicates what some fans are speculating.

The rumor comes from an Amazon posting on Monday from accessory retailer PowerA showing a bright orange and black carrying case for the Switch with the Overwatch insignia. Not long after this information became widespread, the listing was not so mysteriously taken down.

PowerA has made some legit controllers for the Switch before, and their products are generally solid inexpensive alternatives to Nintendo's highly-priced Pro Controller and Joy-Cons which lack some functionality, namely Nintendo's coveted HD Rumble. Because of this fact, it's highly likely that this product is real. What's left to speculation is whether or not this actually indicates an Overwatch port making its way over to the Switch.

Many suspect some sort of crossover between Blizzard and Nintendo as opposed to a straight port. One idea put forth was D.Va for Smash, which would be an exciting crossover, but it's unlikely to come to fruition. If it did, though, putting an Overwatch character in Super Smash Bros could lead to a relationship between Nintendo and Blizzard where the game ends up on Switch in the long run anyway.

Diablo 3, for example, made a marvelous jump to Switch, earning stellar reviews. Overwatch may not translate as well to the hybrid console as a first-person shooter, but it's clear Blizzard has recently taken the time and effort working on the ports they commit to.

The final conclusion that could be drawn is the most cynical one. This is simply another piece of Overwatch merch to try and sell to gamers. Sure, there are plenty of fans who are dedicated to Overwatch and own a Switch who would buy this case, but it would get their hopes pointlessly. Yet, if this post truly indicates anything, it would be that Overwatch was coming to the portable console.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
