In one of his many Overwatch projects, this master cosplayer has crafted extremely detailed Mercy wings that are fully functional and powered by a circuit board.

Zibartas is a Danish cosplayer who focuses on expert blacksmithing and the animatronics for his costume pieces. He's done quite a few Overwatch projects in the past, including Doomfist's mechanical gauntlet and Soldier 76, his first cosplay. Zibartas also posts a number of How-To videos, not only on how he puts these cosplay animatronics together but also tons of content on working with LEDs.

On Twitter, he was proud to announce that after nearly a year of crafting, he's finally finished his Mercy wings (and halo). The wings are a little different from the current in-game Mercy, because the canon ones have a lot more blades and joints, so he had previously decided to go off of the official artbook male version. Thanks to the special LEDs he used, the wings turned out incredibly bright, but also very heavy due to using aluminum and steel in most of this cosplay projects.

In his deep-dive video, he explains how the wings and circuit board are built. Mercy's blades are made with opaque plexiglass tucked snuggly into the steel of the wings' body. After installing the metallic blades, he had encountered an issue of the wings being too heavy to spread, so he sanded the metal down to be much thinner, which also made them look cooler in the long run.

What the eyes are really drawn to, however, is the brightness of his Mercy wings. This is because instead of using cheap, generic LED strips, he chose to implement chip-on-board LEDs. Zibartas said, despite how cumbersome they are to work with, with their tendency to overheat and are not bendable like normal LED tape, they get extremely bright, which makes the wings look all the more impressive.

But of course, cosplayers are known for traveling to conventions, meaning that the wings, despite their size, need to be easy to take apart. To conquer this, Zibartas installed a quick-release mechanism so they could be easily assembled and disassembled, and folded neatly into a suitcase.

In the past, Zibartas has also crafted an intricate Johnny Silverhand cosplay from Cyberpunk 2077. Using textile paint and a laser cutter, he was able to etch out the demon design on the back of Johnny Silverhand's vest.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
