Plenty of changes are sure to come to Overwatch before 2020 ends with gameplay and the game's meta evolving as a result. These changes include minor balancing adjustments and major character reworks, such as Moira's.

Two Overwatch characters that Lead Hero Designer Geoff Goodman says are up for a possible rework in the future are Mei and Symmetra. These two DPS heroes are very effective at defending points as well as changing things up on attack.

If Mei and Symmetra were reworked, they would likely lose their DPS roles as explained by Geoff Goodman. This would completely change who would play as these two as well as change the situations that would call for them.

Mei Rework

Overwatch Mei

As revealed in the Overwatch AMA on Reddit, Mei could possibly be reworked into a tank hero like Orisa and Roadhog instead of a DPS hero, but to make these changes, her damage output on her secondary fire would have to be decreased and have a far shorter range.

However, things wouldn't be as simple as decreasing her damage and increasing her health. Her entire moveset would likely need to be changed around to have her fit more of a tank role while still maintaining the overall Mei appeal of freezing enemies. Other ideas such as Mei being able to slide on her own ice have been thrown around, but haven't been tested officially by the team yet.

Players that prefer Mei as a DPS hero, however, likely don't need to worry about these changes. Geoff Goodman mentioned these changes simply as ideas and not as something concrete that would definitely be coming to Overwatch any time soon.

Symmetra Rework

Symmetra has possibly the most amount of reworks when it comes to any Overwatch character. With her originally being one of Overwatch's support heroes before being reworked again and again until being moved to a DPS hero role, the Overwatch team has experimented with returning Symmetra to her original support role.

If she was to be moved back to being a support hero, Goodman mentioned tests involving her turrets healing allies instead of damaging enemies. However, balancing these healing changes began to become difficult with the team members struggling to find a good limit or range for the turrets. Possibilities of other methods of healing were tossed around, but nothing solid has really come of it so far.

Like with Mei, Symmetra's rework ideas are still just ideas being tossed around, so Symmetra mains shouldn't worry too much about becoming a healer like Mercy or switching mains just yet.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
