The official dates for this year’s Overwatch Lunar New Year festivities have been released on the game’s official Twitter account. In an Overwatch video showcasing Hanzo releasing paper lanterns into the air as he wears his Huang Zhong skin from 2019, it was revealed that the Year of the Rat will run from January 16 to February 5, 2020.

The announcement for the Overwatch Lunar New Year event usually comes at least a few days before it launches, but this year Blizzard has waited until the day before to share the news. The company hasn’t even revealed the time that the event will go live, but in the past Lunar New Year events have kicked off at 11:00 PST / 19:00 GMT.

Lunar New Year celebrates the Chinese New Year and has become a seasonal event in Overwatch since it was first introduced in 2017. Though details of what the event will bring this year have not yet been announced, there are common elements every year. There is a traditional capture the flag mode as well as a more competitive capture the flag mode with placement matches, leaderboards, and Competitive Points. In previous years, these modes took place in temporarily Asian themed locations, such as a reskinned festive versions of Lijiang Tower in 2017 and the Busan map in 2019.

In addition, a number of Lunar Loot Boxes are released, giving players the chance to earn Overwatch festival-themed epic and legendary skins, emotes, victory poses, sprays, and special player icons. Last year, items from previous Lunar New Year events were also temporarily made available at a discounted credit price. A peek at the banner of the official Overwatch Twitter account gives players a glimpse of at least two of the new character skins—those for Moira and Lucio—and a second tweet shared a video of Sombra’s eye-catching new outfit for the Year of the Rat.

Leakers have also provided a look at the full lineup of expected character skins, including Brigitte, Doomfist, Winston, and Wrecking Ball. The leaked images for Moira, Lucio, and Sombra match the Overwatch skins that were officially revealed by Blizzard, so it’s likely that the rest of the leaked skins are also accurate. Overwatch is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
