Overwatch: Buying All the New League Skins is Really Expensive

Blizzard releases the new League skins in Overwatch, though some fans are disappointed to learn just how much it costs to collect all of the newly added skins.

With the Overwatch League set to kickoff on January 10, Blizzard has released a new update for the game that adds 312 new skins based on the various professional Overwatch teams. These new skins are purchased with a new premium currency called League Tokens instead of through loot boxes, but anyone hoping to collect them all will have to break the bank a bit.

One of the new League skins in Overwatch costs 100 League Tokens, which is equivalent to $5. Players are gifted 100 League Tokens simply for playing the game between now and February 13, so potentially they can get one skin for free. However, anyone that logs into Overwatch after February 13 that decides to buy all 312 of the League skins individually would have to pay a whopping $1,560.

However, it's possible to lower that price down to about $1,200. League Tokens are available in multiple bundle packs, and if players buy 12 $100 bundles (which come with 2,600 League Tokens apiece), they should have enough tokens to purchase every new skin in the game.

How to unlock Overwatch League skins new currency

It's safe to say that the vast majority of Overwatch players won't worry too much about buying all the League skins, or even any of the League skins for that matter. In fact, many players may be satisfied with the free League skin that they can get between now and February 13, and won't ever bother purchasing any additional League Tokens.

However, Completionists out there may genuinely be tempted to shell out the cash to have a complete collection. As outlandish as it may seem, there are people that are willing to spend quite a bit of cash on microtransactions if it means that they can have a truly complete game.

On the bright side, some of the proceeds from these Overwatch League skins will go to the team they represent, meaning Blizzard won't be the sole entity benefiting from League Tokens. If the Overwatch League takes off in the way Blizzard is hoping, League Tokens could be a creative way to support one's favorite team or player, not unlike buying an athlete's jersey in the real world.
