The Overwatch League is still in its infancy, yet some of its players have already found themselves in hot water. The latest Overwatch League player to get himself in trouble is London Spitfire's DPS specialist Park "Profit" Joon-yeong, who has been fined $1,000 after raising a middle finger to the camera during January 25 match against the San Francisco Shock.

Shortly after the match aired, Joon-yeong apologized on social media, claiming that he didn't realize he was actually being filmed at the time. According to Joon-yeong, the obscene gesture was meant as a joke for his teammates, and wasn't directed at the opposing team.

Joon-yeong isn't the first Overwatch league player to get in trouble since the eSport's first season kicked off earlier this month. Last week, Dallas Fuel player Felix "xQc" Lengyel was suspended for graphically insulting another player, making some comments that were construed as homophobic in nature.

It makes sense for Blizzard and the Overwatch League to punish players that act in a way that may paint the eSport in a bad light. After all, the Overwatch League has some big-time sponsors that the players need to think about, including car manufacturer Toyota, which recently signed a deal to help grow the league.

Moving forward, Overwatch fans can expect these rules to continue to be enforced. If these players continue to act out in inappropriate ways, even harsher punishments could be implemented, as keeping the Overwatch League in a positive light is important to ensuring that it continues to grow as an eSport.

As eSports grow in popularity and start receiving more mainstream attention, the athletes participating in them will continue to be held to higher standards. In the meantime, Joon-yeong should be back in action on February 1, when the London Spitfire takes on the Seoul Dynasty.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
