Blizzard has announced the Overwatch Credits Last Chance event, which is scheduled to kick off next week and will last until next month. Blizzard will soon be replacing the original Overwatch with its free-to-play sequel Overwatch 2, which will mean some major changes for the hero-shooter. This includes a significant revamp to Overwatch's monetization, as loot boxes are being abandoned in favor of a Battle Pass and a more traditional free-to-play store.

When Overwatch players open loot boxes, they are treated to random cosmetic items. If they happen to get a duplicate item of something that they already own, then they are gifted with credits instead. These credits can be used to directly purchase cosmetic items in the game, ranging from skins to voice lines. With Overwatch 2's early access release date right around the corner, fans of the original game are running out of time to spend their credits on seasonal cosmetics.

Luckily, Blizzard will be hosting a Last Chance event from September 13 at 11:00am PT until October 2. During this event, all the seasonal cosmetic items that have ever been released for the original Overwatch game will be made available for fans to purchase with their credits. Unspent credits will be transferred to Overwatch 2, but with the new game using a vastly different monetization system, it remains to be seen how exactly that's going to look.

Not only does this month mark the last opportunity that Overwatch players will have to spend their credits on seasonal cosmetics, but it's also the last time that Overwatch players will be able to play the original game's Competitive Play mode. It's been confirmed by Blizzard that the ongoing Overwatch Competitive season will be the last, so anyone interested in trying to hit a new rank in the traditional 6v6 set-up is running out of time to do so.

On October 4, two days after the Overwatch Credit Last Chance event ends, Overwatch 2 will launch in early access. Despite being billed as an early access release, Overwatch 2 will launch with three new heroes, a Battle Pass, and much more. While there's a great deal of excitement surrounding Overwatch 2, there's also a sense of sadness permeating the situation because it means saying bye to the original Overwatch. Anyone that wants to make sure that they've obtained their favorite seasonal cosmetics and battled it out in the final Competitive Play season should make a plan to do so in the next couple of weeks.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
