Overwatch fans are patiently waiting for some substantial news on the upcoming Overwatch 2, but in the meantime, there is still plenty of new content being released for the original Overwatch game. The latest Overwatch content drop comes in the form of a limited-time event called the Kanezaka Challenge, which is live in the hero-shooter from now until January 25, giving fans the chance to unlock some exclusive cosmetic content.

The Overwatch Kanezaka Challenge centers around the new Kanezaka deathmatch map, with cosmetic content based on Damage hero Hanzo. Players don't have to play on the Kanezaka map to unlock the rewards, however. Simply racking up wins in Quick Play, Competitive Play, or Arcade will be enough for Overwatch enthusiasts to unlock all of the new cosmetic items that are being released as part of the Kanezaka Challenge.

By getting three wins, Overwatch players will unlock the Pagoda Icon, whereas six wins unlocks the Yokai Spray. The ultimate prize is available after Overwatch players have won nine times while the Kanezaka Challenge is live, and it comes in the form of the Kyogisha Hanzo skin. This content will only be available in the game until January 25, so anyone interested should make it a point to unlock it while they still can.

Like past Overwatch limited-time events, the Kanezaka Challenge also rewards players for watching Overwatch Twitch streams from participating streamers. Watching two hours of a qualified stream unlocks the Shrine District spray, whereas four hours unlocks the Pawttery and Tato Takes Off sprays. And finally, watching six hours of qualified Twitch streaming content will unlock the  Dragon Consumes, Bath Time, and Catchamari sprays for players to use in-game.

Once the Overwatch Kanezaka Challenge wraps up on January 25, fans of the game shouldn't have to wait too much longer for another content drop. The Overwatch Lunar New Year event typically starts at the end of January or beginning of February, so the Kanezaka Challenge may bleed right into the Year of the Ox event. What exactly the Year of the Ox event will entail remains to be seen, but it seems likely that the focus will be on tank hero Orisa.

The Lunar New Year event in Overwatch may be the last big event for the base game before fans get their hands on Overwatch 2Overwatch 2 is confirmed for BlizzCon 2021 in February, and some rumors suggest that the game will be available within a few months. Other rumors say that the Overwatch 2 release date won't be until much later in the year, though, so fans will just need to tune in to BlizzCon on February 19 to find out more.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
