Overwatch's PTR recently received a massive update that looks to test future changes coming to the main game, such as Symmetra's retwork and tweaks to the Horizon Lunar Colony map. The changes to the Horizon Lunar Colony map may be especially interesting to Overwatch players, as it seems as though the developers have added new content that teases the identity of the game's next and 28th playable hero.
In the new version of the Horizon Lunar Colony map, players can enter the room of another gorilla who escaped from the space station with Winston, named Hammond. Hammond's room shows evidence that the gorilla has become intelligent, even managing to attach his own escape pod to Winston's. Whether or not he had assistance from Winston or serves a sort of evil version of Tank hero remains to be seen, however.

While it's possible Hammond won't be the next Overwatch hero as theorized, this wouldn't be the first time Blizzard made changes to a map to tease a new hero. In fact, the Numbani map received a significant change by having its payload destroyed and Doomfist's gauntlet stolen from it as a way to tease his introduction to the game, and subtle changes have been made to other maps over the last couple of years as well.
Of course, it's possible that Hammond is intended to be a hero introduced a bit later down the line, and that some other rumored heroes will show up first. For example, the Junkertown Queen has been rumored to be in the works for Overwatch for quite some time, and some have theorized that the Petra map is teasing the existence of a Greek hero.
At this point, it's unclear if any of these rumored heroes will ever materialize. In the meantime, fans will keep scouring Horizon Lunar Colony for more clues about Hammond and the possibility that he is the game's next hero.
Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
