With everyone enjoying the Overwatch Halloween Terror event, some might not have realized that Blizzard snuck in rather large gameplay change with the new patch. The target of this change is the Ultimate meter.

Before the latest patch, using an Ultimate would cause the meter to drain based on its duration. This was so players who died right after using their Ultimate wouldn't feel like they completely wasted it. Ever interrupt a Genji Ultimate, just to have him come back with his meter full, ready to hack you to pieces? That's the old system at work. Wonderful for the Genji, but not so fair to the opposing team that shut his Ultimate down.

Those days are gone. The patch now makes Ultimates deplete instantly. This means that players who die after they pop an Ultimate can just kiss it goodbye – it's gone. As a result of this change, Overwatch made adjustments to some of the hero Ultimates. The complete list of hero changes are below:

D.Va

  • An option to manually hold down D.Va’s boosters rather than toggling them has been added under Options > Controls > D.Va

Genji

  • Dragonblade will no longer be interrupted when Genji is stunned or hacked

Orisa

  • Supercharger can now be interrupted when Orisa is stunned or hacked

Sombra

  • Hack now interrupts the following ultimate abilities during their cast time: Ana's Nano Boost, Orisa's Supercharger, Mei's Blizzard, Reinhardt's Earthshatter, and D.Va's Call Mech

These changes have possibly gone under the radar for many players, as the Halloween Terror event went live yesterday and is capturing everyone's attention. Junkenstein's Revenge makes a most welcomed return to the Arcade, this time with an added twist. While the standard mode still has McCree, Soldier: 76, Ana, and Hanzo facing hordes of Jukenstein's creations, an Endless Night mode has been added that expands the roster to include Genji, Torbjorn, Widowmaker, and Zenyatta. Endless Night pits players against waves of enemies that get more difficult as they progress. Those who survive the longest will earn a spot on the new leaderboard.

Halloween Terror also adds over 50 new seasonal items, including 8 new spooktacular skins. Ana dresses up like a swashbuckling corsair, Zenyatta goes full Cthulhu, and Reaper masquerades as Dracula. All the skins are fantastic, but Zarya dressed as an 80s fitness instructor has to be ranked up there was one of the best in the game. She has big hair and leg warmers for goodness' sake.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
