Heroes of the Storm just launched its major 2.0 update and is holding a new Overwatch-themed event where players can unlock new Genji and D.Va skins. The Heroes of the Storm 2.0 update focuses mainly on revamping the game's meta progression and monetization systems.

Blizzard's new focus is clearly much more on gaining new players as well as retaining them. Adopting Overwatch's Loot Box system, now in the form of Loot Chests, is one of them. Apparently rewarding Overwatch loot directly works pretty well, too.

Unlike prior Heroes of the Storm events, Nexus Challenge 2.0 is extremely simple and doesn't require much time investment. Each week for the next four weeks a new quest will unlock the week's given quest, and gamers can earn the quest's rewards by playing 5 matches with a friend in Quick Match, Unranked, and Ranked modes.

It's worth mentioning that playing against AI will only work for the very first week, and that all four quests will remain open until March 22 after they have unlocked. That being said, players must complete each quest in order, so unlocking all of the rewards will require a total of 20 games.

All four weeks feature a combination of Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch loot, though certain weeks offer more substantial rewards than others. Here's what players can expect as a reward for each week's quest completion:

  • Week 1
    • Overwatch: Oni Genji Skin, Oni Genji Player Icon, Oni Genji Spray
    • Heroes of the Storm: Orochi Overcycle Mount (6 Color Variations), Oni Genji Warbanner, Oni Spray, Oni Genji Portrait
  • Week 2
    • Overwatch: Officer D.Va Skin
    • Heroes of the Storm: Busan Police Hovercycle Mount
  • Week 3
    • Overwatch: Officer D.Va Spray, Officer D.Va Player Icon
    • Heroes of the Storm: Overwatch Nexagon Mount, Officer D.Va Banner, Badge Spray, Officer D.Va Portrait
  • Week  4
    • Overwatch: 10 Loot Boxes
    • Heroes of the Storm: 10 Loot Chests

The Nexus Challenge  2.0 event is both a celebration of the Heroes of the Storm 2.0 soft relaunch and the addition of a ton of Overwatch-related content. Both Genji and, just announced today, D.Va are being added to the MOBA's roster. Genji is even available to play right now, with D.Va coming soon.

Non-Overwatch fans also have the Hanamura Battleground to look forward to, which pushes opposing teams to deliver multiple payloads in order to win.

Heroes of the Storm 2.0 is available now.
