In his latest Clueless Gamer segment, late night talk show host Conan O’Brien sits down with Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey for a game of Overwatch.
Now that Overwatch – Blizzard Entertainment’s first original IP in 17 years – is finally out, late night talk show host Conan O’Brien is having a go at it on his popular Clueless Gamer segment. While he’s invited some big-name stars to play video games with him previously, such as Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, Conan decided to up the ante for his Overwatch Clueless Gamer segment by inviting Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey.
The Overwatch Clueless Gamer segment immediately turns on the humor, beginning with Conan perched on top of an Iron Throne toilet, and Peter and Lena either side of him. All three almost immediately admit that gaming isn’t their strong suit, but they’re willing to give Overwatch‘s frantic first-person shooter gameplay a shot anyway. That pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the segment, as it quickly becomes less about playing the game, and more about getting up to some laugh-worthy shenanigans, including making fun of a number of Overwatch‘s cartoony characters.
Perhaps the most interesting – and funny – moment is when the Widowmaker character appears onscreen, and everyone’s attention immediately gravitates towards Widowmaker’s unnaturally shiny posterior. Based on Conan, Peter, and Lena’s reactions to Widowmaker, it’s pretty clear that they were completely unaware of the recent controversy regarding Tracer’s butt pose, but it makes for some great humor just the same.
Peter and Lena have portrayed characters who have often butted heads over the course of Game of Thrones’ six-season run, and Overwatch is all about competitive gameplay. It should come as no surprise, then, that this Clueless Gamer segment features even more trash-talking than what UFC champion Conor McGregor brought to the show a few months ago. Taking into account the cumulative lack of gaming skill between Conan, Peter, and Lena, this Clueless Gamer segment still offered up some interesting looks into some of Overwatch‘s maps, as well as its roster of offensive, defensive, and support characters.
With all the recent attention being focused on issues such as the aforementioned butt pose controversy, and Blizzard’s stance on cheating, sometimes the simplicity of enjoying the game gets lost in the shuffle. Conan’s entertaining Clueless Gamer segment offers up a much-needed lighthearted look at what is shaping up to be one of 2016’s most-promising multiplayer shooters.
Overwatch is out now and available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
