The popularity of Overwatch can mostly be attributed to the game’s characters, as everyone in Blizzard’s hero shooter boasts a memorable playstyle and personality. However, the latest Overwatch tier lists have seen players coming up with some more ridiculous concepts.
Tier lists memes are a major change from the content usually posted by the Overwatch community. Fan art is much more common, as is cosplay and memorable highlights from matches. Still, it is easy to see why the tier lists are becoming a trend, as players are having a lot of fun coming up with jokes to base each list on. As always, heroes are categorized into one of five slots, and nobody on the Overwatch roster is safe from the fan base’s new pastime.
The first of these funny tier lists comes courtesy of the Overwatch player moobisk, and it sees each hero ranked by how much it would hurt to die to them in real life. Unsurprisingly, the snipers like Widowmaker and Ana find themselves in D tier, as death would be swift due to their rifles and accuracy. C Tier is full of characters like Tracer and Sombra, as they would need a few shots to kill. B Tier has Mei, which is fair given her freeze gun. Junkrat and Pharah’s explosives make them fair choices for A Tier, while S tier wisely includes Winston and Brigitte.
Another entertaining list from moobisk looks at how Overwatch heroes would react if they found out someone’s dog died. At the top of the list, some genuinely sorry characters include Genji and Winston. Next up is Orisa and Tracer, who would give the dog owner some chocolate - though some argued Orisa’s puppy emote means she should be higher up. Ashe is in the tier of characters who did not know there was a dog at all, while the likes of Mercy and Bastion would smother the former pet owner with affection. Jokingly, the last tier is for characters who likely killed the dog.
While these tier lists have become a lot more plentiful in recent days, the trend does seem to date back at least a few months. A Redditor named umbrapalemooner made a funny Overwatch tier list earlier this year, with the list ranking the characters by how easily they can climb to the practice range roof. Alongside characters like Tracer and Reinhardt that cannot make it, the likes of Wrecking Ball require a lot of skill. Jokingly, two separate tiers look at players that need to press one button to reach the top.

Clearly, Overwatch players have had a lot of fun with making these posts, and more will likely come in the future. With Overwatch 2 in the works, players will soon have even more characters to rank in both silly and serious tier lists.
