A reimagined (and not real) version of Blizzard’s best-selling first-person shooter game, Overwatch, has been made and a short clip of this imaginary video game has been posted. The reimagined version of Overwatch takes on the form of a fighting game and features all the Overwatch heroes, as well as ten locations from the original game in a format similar to classic arcade fighting games such as Tekken, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.
The below video shows almost 6 minutes of the gameplay for this hypothetical video game, including two action-packed battles between Reinhardt and Zarya and Doomfist and Genji, as well as fully functional character selection and map selection screens. The video also pays homage to Street Fighter with a bonus stage where Doomfist has to beat up a motorbike for points and players can have a go at getting a high score. All the characters’ abilities, outfits, and weapons are also true to Overwatch, and each character is given special abilities too.
The programmers at TGN created this game, and it looks surprisingly professional and well-done, to the extent that fans’ comments on the video suggest that if this game were to be made, they would absolutely buy it. Obviously, Overwatch Fighter is not the type of game that we can expect from Blizzard anytime soon, but Overwatch fans are certainly responding well to the possibility of this game. Perhaps Blizzard would consider developing an arcade-style fighter game that includes other Blizzard heroes in the future, as they have successfully done in Heroes of the Storm.
But for now, Overwatch fans can enjoy the Lunar event that is running until March 5th with new skins, intros and emotes for the heroes. To celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday, the game is also currently on sale and free to play on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 until February 19th.
Overwatch is available now on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
