Overwatch fans have had no shortage of great ideas for hero cosmetics. With Sombra being so popular, it makes sense that Overwatch fans would make some designs for her, and one new concept gives her an awesome Aztec makeover.

As shown in Overwatch events like Summer Games and Lunar New Year, Blizzard loves leaning into the heritage of each character. Just about every hero has a skin based around their different nationalities, with fans of each character able to fully embrace where they came from. Leaning into each country’s heritage produces some genuinely cool cosmetics, too, with Redditor Quirrelli’s Sombra being particularly memorable.

There is plenty of detail to make note of when looking at this Aztec-inspired Sombra design, as so much of the skin stands out. The black paint on one of her legs is a nice touch, as is the unique medallion on her waist. The jaguar art on the hero’s top looks like something one would expect to see on an ancient mural, though the glowing yellow color makes it look high tech. Sombra’s black hand and golden claws stand out, as do her nose ring and eyes. The many patterns that are visible on the gun ensure that it would look great in first person.

Dubbed Tezcatlipoca, the skin is based around a deity from the Aztec pantheon. As mentioned by the fan artist in the comments, several aspects of the skin are based on the god. The black stripes and jaguars on Sombra, as well as the headdress and shield, are taken directly from the mythology. The same can be said for the mohawk that is made from feathers, as feathers were associated with the war-focused god. With Blizzard making sure to have meaning behind many of the skins it adds, this research and inspiration makes the concept fit well with the official skins in the game.

Thus far, the community response has been very positive, with the concept being even more impressive considering that it is Quirrelli’s first attempt at making one. The only criticism that fans have is that it does not look enough like Sombra, which goes against Blizzard’s philosophy of heroes being instantly identifiable no matter what outfit they are wearing. Still, this did result in a fun suggestion from Redditor DeathToTheFalseGods, as the fan would like to see a similar skin for Lucio. They even suggest changing up his music to fit the theme, with Quirrelli agreeing that it would make for a good outfit.

While Halloween Terror 2021 is live right now, it would be great to see next year’s version of the event feature a skin inspired by this design. Sombra dressing up like a mythical Aztec warrior just feels right, and it is easy to imagine a skin like this one being added.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
