An eagle-eyed Overwatch fan has found an outdated Activision Blizzard costume at Spirit Halloween that features a hero that hasn't been altered to reflect Overwatch 2. With Halloween 2022 coming to an end, many stores have cheap candy and Spirit Halloween has discounted its items before disappearing for another year, including costumes like the aforementioned Overwatch 2 one.

Reddit user CreamierCheesier recently shared a photo from a Spirit Halloween retail store in which an Overwatch McCree costume sits between an Incredibles one and another that appears to be the tank hero D.Va. The Overwatch 2 hero previously known as McCree was renamed to Cassidy last year due to some accusations concerning the character's namesake at Activision Blizzard. The original Overwatch was a big success for Activision Blizzard and since the game released, tons of merchandise revolving around the franchise has been released, including a lineup of costumes that may not have been replaced with Overwatch 2 counterparts.

CreamierCheesier's photo shows the McCree costume which would otherwise look quite unsuspecting if it simply replaced the original Overwatch hero's name with the Overwatch 2 one. The child-sized costume shows a kid dressed like the revolver-wielding cowboy complete with Cassidy's ammo-laden hat and large red poncho which are staples of the standard skin for the hero. This McCree outfit, which may be replaced by an Overwatch 2 Cassidy one in the future, comes packed with a cape, Faux leather glove, full sleeve glove, hat, and muscle shirt with BAMF belt which provides the robotic aesthetic of the cyborg hero.

At the conclusion of the original Overwatch and in time for the launch of Overwatch 2, Activision Blizzard had changed the name of McCree to Cassidy, which makes the timing of this Spirit Halloween find a bit perplexing to fans. Although many fans of the first Overwatch are still used to calling the cowboy hero McCree, players that just got into the series with Overwatch 2 may be confused to see the character going by a different name. Because many of the costumes available for this year's Halloween are of characters from the initial lineup for the Activision Blizzard hero shooter, some outfits like this McCree one may have been carried over from past years.

CreamierCheesier's Overwatch post has garnered over 2,000 upvotes from fans that are largely entertained by the Spirit Halloween store find, with the top response referring to McCree as John Cowboy. One Overwatch fan was quick to point out that the McCree costume is clearly from the original game as he's missing the Overwatch 2 beard, while others recounted the cause of the character's name change to Cassidy.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
