With Overwatch boasting such a diverse cast of heroes, fans have plenty of characters to grow attached to. One player seems to be specifically fond of Zenyatta, as the Overwatch fan has shared a stunning painting of the monk.

Part of what makes Zenyatta so interesting is the fact that gamers know so little about him. A member of a peaceful group of Omnic monks, his main contribution to the world of Overwatch is tied to fellow hero Genji. After the end of Blackwatch, a young and angry version of the cyborg ninja came to Zenyatta, with the Omnic helping him come to terms with his new body. While Zenyatta helping get rid of Genji’s anger shows that he is a kind-hearted being, little else is known about his origins. Fans also know little about the Shambali monks apart from the fact that they believe Omnics have souls.

While this lack of Zenyatta lore has led to fans hoping that he will get an Overwatch animated short, comic, or challenge event, it remains to be seen if any of those things will happen. Despite so little being known about him, though, fans love Zenyatta anyway — with his unique design and voice helping to set him apart from some of the other heroes in the game. He also boasts a special ultimate ability called Transcendence, which sees the hero summoning some spirit-like arms to negate all incoming damage for several seconds. It is this ability that Tholia Bentz recreated in their art piece.

Posting it to both Reddit and Instagram, the Zenyatta fan has received plenty of positive comments for the painting thus far. That praise is well-deserved, as everything about the artwork is impressive. The texture work on Zenyatta is particularly cool, which shows clearly when some close-up images of his head and chest are provided. Both are given a bit of shine to make them stand out more, while the shading on Zenyatta’s robes and body is equally nice.

Any Zenyatta players will know the bright gold light that the hero emits when he is using his ultimate ability, something that shows due to the large circle behind him and the smaller circle around his chest. Alongside this light, Zenyatta’s extra arms are depicted perfectly, adding to the piece due to just how different they look from the hero’s “real” appendages. While Zenyatta would be hard enough to pull off normally, focusing on Transcendence only adds to the difficulty — but Tholia Bentz rises to the occasion with this memorable painting.

With a neat drawing of Genji recently making the rounds, too, it seems like both the student and master are getting plenty of love from the hero shooter’s fan base. For those that love Zenyatta, though, this piece is tough to top.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
