Overwatch fans are always coming up with unique ideas for fan art, and with Tracer being closer to the series’ main character than anyone else, it makes sense that she would be the focus of a lot of it. In terms of sheer beauty, one new piece is hard to top, as it takes a realistic approach to the Overwatch hero.

In the past, fan art based on Tracer has come in a few forms. Overwatch fans have seen Tracer placed on recruitment posters, attacked by Pachimari, and in various cartoony styles. Now, they are getting to see a more realistic take on the character, with artist and Reddit user DannyWatch sharing the piece on the game’s official subreddit. There is plenty to appreciate in the piece, with the most obvious part being Lena Oxton herself.

In this fan made Overwatch art, every detail of Tracer’s default look has been perfectly captured. While it is wet, her iconic hairstyle is clearly visible, as are her trademark goggles. Tracer’s flight jacket boasts the UK flag just like it does in the games, while her pistols and chronal accelerator also look great. With rain drops able to be seen on the hero’s face, and water clearly splashing off her jacket, Tracer fits perfectly into the rainy setting that the fan has created.

Tracer can also be seen holding a letter in her hands, and if Overwatch players look closely, they will be able to read it clearly. Instead of a message between Tracer and another in-universe character, lyrics from a song can be seen. The words from “Thank You” by Dido are visible, though as many have pointed out, the note is likely a nod to the far more popular song “Stan” by Eminem. DannyWatch says that the lyrics pop into their head whenever they see rain, and the somber song is a fine fit for the dreary image.

The only change to the lyrics sees “Overwatch?” written at the top as well as the group’s logo, meaning that it is a bit more than a fun nod. With several letters floating around Tracer, it seems clear that the artist is trying to reflect the idea that these messages were from people in need of the heroes. Likely sent when Overwatch was disbanded, the group obviously did not answer, letting people down and forcing Tracer to do the best she could on her own. With the artwork able to fit into the lore of Overwatch perfectly, it becomes even more impressive.

In the day since it was posted, the artwork has earned 1,400 upvotes, and that number is unlikely to stop growing anytime soon. Clearly, many appreciate the detailed piece, and perhaps DannyWatch will make some more cheerful art once the group comes back together in Overwatch 2’s PvE campaign.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
