With so many different play styles and mechanics provided by the Overwatch hero roster, the game is understandably hard to balance. However, Overwatch fans seem to be particularly bothered by the newest experimental update, as it makes changes that gamers feel are not ideal.

This is hardly the first time that Overwatch fans have questioned an experimental update. Late last year, gamers were quick to call the beloved tank Reinhardt overpowered due to a buff to his hammer-swinging. A few months later, a change to Orisa’s armor proved even more infuriating for players, as the decision to make critical damage impossible while she was hardened was a real head-scratcher. While these two issues were tied to tanks, though, it is the latest patch’s changes to a support hero that have sparked some heated discussion.

Overwatch’s new experimental update made several changes. D. Va’s mech-calling sequence saw a major buff to its damage output, while Sombra became faster while invisible. Echo received a slight nerf to her ultimate ability, while Orisa and Roadhog got slight buffs. However, it is the adjustments to Baptiste that have drawn the most ire. While his Immortality Field has taken a slight hit, his healing through his Amplification Matrix has received a big buff. Singled out by pro players Nero and Danteh, this decision has clearly not gone over well.

As for the nerf to the increasingly popular support character Baptiste, Twitch streamer Warn believes that it was not enough. Arguing that the Immortality Field ability needs a complete rework instead of just a nerf, Warn would like to see the invulnerability effect swapped out with reduced damage. Arguing that the ability is too strong to be usable in every fight, this is far from the first time that Overwatch fans have called for major changes to the Immortality Field.

Baptiste’s ultimate ability is particularly troublesome in the current meta, as it counters characters like Reaper, Reinhardt, and Mei entirely. However, the issues players seen to have do not seem to be limited to just Baptiste, as Twitch streamer Flats has called out the adjustments to Reinhardt. The player also took issue with the buffs for Roadhog and Orisa, holding up a hand-written rant about the changes in a photo. Making some solid arguments about how Reinhardt's time in the meta was likely coming to an end anyway, the argument that these changes are unnecessary is a fair one.

While one positive of experimental updates is that the changes do not always go through to the live game, fans are clearly concerned about what could happen if they are made official. With Overwatch’s latest Archives event frustrating fans as well, the past few weeks have not been the best time for the hero shooter.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
