When it was announced in May that Nerf versions of Overwatch weapons were coming, fans began to speculate about which blasters would receive the Nerf treatment. Then, in late July, Blizzard revealed Reaper's Hellfire Shotgun as the first to hit shelves sometime in 2019. And now, just a couple weeks later, D.Va's Light Gun is joining the ranks of Overwatch weapons to be inducted into Nerf history.

Aesthetically, it's an impressively faithful replica. The most immediately noticeable difference from the game is Nerf's signature orange plastic, which replaces the silver barrel and trigger. Otherwise, everything looks about the same, right down to the bunny charm chained to the grip.

Hasbro's press release details the upcoming Nerf gun's capabilities, which include a three-round capacity and 80 feet-per-second firing speed. Like Reaper's Hellfire Shotgun, D.Va's Light Gun will be part of Nerf's high-powered Rival series, which uses small foam balls instead of the traditional rubber-tipped darts. Consistent with similarly-equipped Nerf Rival guns, D.Va's blaster will feature a spring-action mechanism, a safety, and a ready indicator.

The brief teaser released on the Overwatch Twitter page is sparse on details, giving the same 2019 release window as Reaper's Hellfire Shotgun. Thankfully, given the steady pace of reveals since the line was originally announced, word of the next weapon in the series likely isn't far away.

Thinking of the possibilities, it's natural to fantasize about blasting real-life opponents with Tracer's Pulse Pistols or McCree's Peacekeeper, but perhaps just as intriguing is the prospect of Nerf melee weapons. Given the current availability of Nerf swords, bats, and even chainsaws, it's easy to imagine Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer or Genji's katana coming to life. After all, the Nerf Rival line is known for its range of accessories, which makes this curious collaboration rife with possibility.

Compared to the Hellfire Shotgun, the stats just barely favor Reaper. With the Hellfire, the Rival line's yellow foam ammunition can travel up to 90 feet per second compared to the Light Gun's 80 feet, and the shotgun can hold eight rounds compared to the Light Gun's three. Pricing has yet to be revealed, but it's likely that the larger, more capable Hellfire Shotgun will cost a tad more than D.Va's Light Gun.

Overwatch is available now for the PS4.
