Overwatch and cosplay have gone hand in hand for years, as the unique designs for the game’s heroes have given all cosplayers the ability to dress up as someone from the game. Overwatch cosplayer Avera seems to be particularly fond of Mercy, however, with the fan dressing up in her special Dragoon skin.

While Mercy’s new “Karen” skin has proven to be a bit controversial with the game’s fans, her Dragoon skin was a hit with players as soon as it released. Debuting back during the 2020 Anniversary event, the skin sees the healer wearing some bulky armor and an impressive dragon helmet. Her staff also received a scaly re-design, helping the green skin stand out even more from Mercy’s other skins. While this would be one of the tougher outfits to remake in real life, Avera took on the challenge.

RELATED: Why Overwatch's Mercy is Such a Popular Character

The skilled Mercy cosplayer did a tremendous job recreating the detailed outfit, and she has since shown several photos that depict her wearing it. The quality of her work truly shines in a side-by-side comparison, as Avera copies a pose from an art piece centered on Dragoon Mercy. Showing off the metallic gauntlets' sharp claws, this side view of the costume also makes it clear how well Avera did with the wings. Posing in a forest area for good measure, the Overwatch player nails the skin's overall vibe.

Another image sees the artistic fan bringing the staff of the popular Overwatch hero to life. Just as essential to Mercy as her halo and wings, the Caduceus Staff is the main tool in the hero’s kit. Used to heal teammates or boost their damage, every Legendary skin for the character sees the item getting a rework fitting of the Support hero’s look. While Avera has captured the Dragoon skin’s scaly staff, she has put her own touch on the item too, giving it a yellow pattern instead of green. With so much green in the outfit, this decision makes sense.

Mercy’s 2020 Anniversary skin would not be complete without the Dragon helmet, though, and thankfully Avera mastered this aspect of the design. Looking just as imposing as the one in-game, a front view shot of the costume provides a clear look at the head gear. Not only is the actual shape of the helmet spot-on, but the different materials used to capture the intricate look improve it further. This is most obvious with the blue, gem-like eyes, which are a standout feature of the cosmetic.

Clearly, Avera’s hard work was worth the effort, and the cosplayer deserves all the praise that she is getting for her portrayal of Mercy. With Mercy getting a new look in Overwatch 2 that will surely allow for some more unique alternate skins, cosplayers should have plenty of fresh options going forward.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
