A Reddit user discovers a file in the latest update to the Overwatch PTR that seems to suggest the long-rumored Doomfist will be added to the game next.

After the devilish hacker Sombra was added to the game a few months ago, Overwatch fans have been waiting patiently for Blizzard to reveal the next new character in development for its popular shooter. So far, Blizzard has kept quiet about the game's next character, but new evidence seems to suggest that the next character joining the roster of heroes is none other than Doomfist.

In Overwatch lore, Doomfist is a title given to characters that wield a special, powerful gauntlet. There have been two Doomfist characters in the Overwatch universe so far, with a third, "The Successor," teased as the next character to wield the gauntlet. The gauntlet itself can be found stashed in the Numbani payload in-game, but a future update for may see that payload smashed and the gauntlet stolen by the new Doomfist.

Reddit user Venxa discovered that data in the latest patch for the game's Public Test Realm features an unfinished model of a smashed Numbani payload. It would be odd for Blizzard to create such a model without any intent of using it, so it's safe to say that a future update will see the Numbani payload destroyed, but it remains to be seen when the company will move forward with this development.

Doomfist has been rumored for Overwatch for quite some time, with the rumors ramping up after actor Terry Crews expressed interest in voicing the character. Crews has launched an Internet campaign to convince Blizzard to let him play Doomfist, an effort that has seen Crews invited to Blizzard's offices late last year, and has seen support from thousands of fans, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Crews' visit to Blizzard's offices added fuel to the fire that he will in fact be voicing Doomfist when the character is added to the game. Some have speculated that Crews visited Blizzard's offices to record voice lines for the character, or perhaps to negotiate the possibility of hiring Crews to record lines at a later date.

Whatever the case may be, the newly discovered Numbani payload model is strong evidence that Doomfist is in line to be the game's next DLC character. Whether or not Terry Crews will be providing the voice work remains to be seen, but hopefully Blizzard will have more concrete details to share about Doomfist sooner rather than later.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
