Overwatch is known for its colorful cast of heroes, with most characters being likable and upbeat. While most maps that the characters fight in reflect that cheery tone, one Overwatch fan has found something off about Route 66.

An important map in the Overwatch storyline due to its appearance in McCree and Ashe’s animated short, players are familiar with the map’s design. For years now, gamers have fought through the winding canyons, battling it out in the gas station and shanty town as they push the payload forward. However, the disturbing detail discovered by Reddit user selena_queen is not tied to any of these places, with it instead being found in one of the two spawn areas.

While the defender spawn in Overwatch's maps are often forgettable, as they are left behind quickly to prepare for a push, attacker spawns are usually more intricate. Whether it is Oasis’s boat or Dorado’s bells, players often have something to mess around with as the match timer begins to tick down. In the case of Route 66, it is the diner, which sees attackers being able to sit at tables and mess with decorations. However, despite players spending several minutes in this diner over the years, many seem to have missed the off-putting aspect of the wall’s design.

While it is covered with pictures and wall decorations to mimic the feel of a real diner, the wall also features a special color pattern. Players will see red stripes near the bottom of the wall, with some white tiles found in between them. However, these stripes and tiles are actually making something specific, and it seems to have made several members of the Overwatch community uncomfortable. Easily noticeable when looking to the corners of the room, it seems like this pattern is meant to resemble a pair of human teeth. If players decide to picture the red stripes on the wall as a pair of gums, too, they will surely have trouble unseeing the detail.

A gross-but-fitting touch given that the teeth are found inside a diner, this detail could make players feel a bit strange when starting an attack on Route 66. Unsurprisingly, there were a lot of funny replies to selena_queen’s post, with Redditors like BlinByard joking about quitting the game altogether because of this discovery. Others, like bigjanne, pointed out how fitting it was that selena_queen was playing as the chaotic hero Junkrat. Overall, it is clear is that gamers are not pleased with this newfound knowledge.

With Route 66 not being an Assault map, there is a possibility that it could be returning in the highly anticipated Overwatch 2. If it does make a comeback, though, players might be forced to look at an even more intricate version of the diner’s toothy walls.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
