A lot of information has been coming out regarding new things for Overwatch lately, from its Retribution event, to the announcement that game progress may start being saved across different platforms. Now, it seems fans of the game's more competitive modes have something to be excited for as well.

Announced on the Overwatch forums by developer Scott Mercer, a 6v6 competitive elimination game mode is being added to the arcade menu for a limited time. It will be available for players to participate in until May 7th at 5 o'clock PDT. Not only will previous elimination maps be in rotation, but Ayutthaya has been added as well. The game's special "lockout" rule is also in place for the elimination mode, meaning once team wins with a hero, that hero will not be available to pick for the remainder of the match.

This week also sees Retribution event's Rialto map being added to PTR for testing before it is made available for Overwatch's competitive modes. This has a lot of fans happy, as the map has been popular in the Retribution PvE mode and many have been clamoring for it to come to other modes. Changes to Hanzo will also be heading to PTR sometime this month, though there is no exact date on when to expect it.

This is not the only thing the game's developers have talked about recently. Last week, game director Jeff Kaplan discussed the possibility of killing off one of Overwatch's heroes. He did state, though, that just because a character may die in some sort of story arc or in the lore, that character would not be removed from the roster as a playable hero.

Of course, for those looking for something other than competitive modes, the Retribution event added a new PvE game mode that sees Genji, McCree, Moira, and Reaper survive waves of Talon forces. The team must hold off enemies until they can be extracted from a botched mission. Blizzard has also brought back the Uprising PvE mode during Retribution, as well.

Retribution will be available until April 30th. As with other events, playing the PvE mission and participating in other game modes during this time will offer players the opportunity to unlock new in-game items, like skins.

Overwatch is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
