2019 has already been an eventful year for Overwatch, with Ana's Bastet Challenge giving players a new way to unlock an epic-tier skin besides spending coins or getting lucky with loot boxes. After the successful Ana's Bastet Challenge event, Blizzard is keeping the hero shooter's new year momentum going strong, confirming that the annual Lunar New Year event is returning next week.

Overwatch players can look forward to the Lunar New Year event returning on January 24 and lasting until February 18. This year is the Year of the Pig, which means pig-themed skins and cosmetic items will likely be available during the event. It's also likely that the event will see a renewed focus on Capture the Flag, as we've seen in past years, though it's also possible that a brand new game mode will be added instead.

So far, all Blizzard has released for the latest Lunar New Year event is an animation of Soldier: 76 that could be an indication of a new emote he will be able to unlock. Those impatient to see what else the 2019 Lunar New Year event has in store for Overwatch will want to keep an eye on Blizzard's various social media pages, as it promises to reveal a new skin each day leading up to the event's January 24 start date.

The Year of the Pig Lunar New Year event is the first major Overwatch event of 2019, but it will be far from the last. Assuming Blizzard sticks to the pattern it's established these past few years, fans should be able to expect a new story-based event for Overwatch in March or April that will expand on the game's backstory and universe.

Following that will be the Anniversary Event, and then the Summer Games event. Halloween Terror should follow in October, and the year will likely end with the return of Winter Wonderland. From there, the loop will reset, assuming Blizzard plans to keep doing the same seasonal events its done since the game's launch.

While there should be plenty of seasonal events in Overwatch's future, the Lunar New Year event is up next, and will take place from January 24 until February 18.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
