Blizzard Entertainment kicked off BlizzCon 2017 the right way, giving Overwatch fans plenty of reasons to celebrate during the opening ceremony. In addition to brand new healer character Moira, Blizzard also revealed a brand new map.

Blizzard officially unveiled a brand new Overwatch map called Blizzard World with a new teaser trailer. The Blizzard World map lets players visit several areas inspired by other Blizzard game universes. There's a section for Azeroth, a section for Tristram, and there's a section for Koprulu Sector, too. There are also some more generic theme park spots, such as a Ferris wheel and a couple of huge rollercoasters.

There are some other nice touches, such as the restaurant called "Snaxxrammas" (named after the World of Warcraft zone), and a Heroes Arcade (after Heroes of the Storm). Overwatch is full of Easter eggs and it seems likely that the Blizzard World map will be full of fun references like this.

Players will have plenty of opportunities to look for hidden secrets too, as Blizzard World is a hybrid map. As a hybrid map, it means that the new Overwatch location will begin with an Assault mode and end with an Escort mode as players take the point and then move the payload.

For Overwatch players who have also played many of Blizzard's other games, the Blizzard World map is an absolute dream come true. "Epic memories can only be made in an epic world," says the voiceover, and a dedicated theme park will remind players of all of those epic moments. It gives players a throwback to all of their first, amazing moments in these games, including the time that players took down the Lord of Terror.

However, the new Overwatch map is still a little ways off. Although it will go into testing "soon" on the PC-only PTR (Public Test Region), Blizzard World will not be available for players across all platforms until 2018. Given that Overwatch only just introduced the Junkertown map, it makes sense that Blizzard will hold off on releasing this new map for now.

In the meantime, fans have already begun to speculate on other ways that Blizzard could include its other games in Overwatch. Heroes of the Storm is about to add Hanzo, for example, but could Overwatch add playable heroes from other Blizzard franchises too?  It's unclear what Blizzard's plans are on that front, but many are hoping that the brand new Blizzard World map is just the beginning.

Overwatch is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
