One of the most useful supports in Overwatch is currently undergoing some tweaks. Baptiste shook up the meta when he entered the fray due to one ability that is now being tested for changes, according to director Jeff Kaplan.

Baptiste is a welcome addition to the Overwatch roster, and many people were excited about what the character could bring to the game when he was added nearly a year ago. Since then, one ability, in particular, has continued to stir up controversy. Immortality Field is an ability that deploys a large, blue field that will last for up to 8 seconds. Any ally inside this circle will be immune to damage once their health hits 20 percent. It can be destroyed, but it drastically changes the tide of battle while it's up.

The real issue is with its 20-second cooldown, which begins just after it is deployed. Many Overwatch players think it's unfair to have an ability as powerful as this be so readily available. While it has been discussed online many times, a recent post to Reddit garnered a response from Jeff Kaplan himself.

User u/PhoustPhoustPhoust suggested the cooldown on Immortality Field should begin after it is destroyed. Kaplan responded, saying, "We're trying out some changes to immortality field to make it less oppressive. I missed the playtest today so I'll ask the crew how it went." It appears Blizzard is well aware of complaints by players and is seeking a solution. Since it is only being tested, it might be a while until anything is announced on the matter, but it may be enough for many that it is even being tested at all.

Speaking of abilities, fans of the game believe they have discovered a future ability of Echo, an upcoming hero. They did so by scouring an old forum post by Geoff Goodman, one of Overwatch's developers. Goodman detailed abilities he and the team tested but never put into the game. Fans believe these abilities are just waiting for the right hero. At least one of them may have found a place with Echo, due to its description matching a weapon used by the character in the Overwatch 2 cinematic.

Echo was introduced to audiences through the animated short "Reunion" that premiered at BlizzCon 2018. While it was actually meant to introduce Ashe, the 29th hero to join the roster, and show her relationship to longtime character McCree, Echo stole a bit of the spotlight when she appeared at the end of the short.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
