To celebrate the one year anniversary of the launch of Overwatch, Blizzard has kicked off a brand new event for its popular multiplayer shooter. The Anniversary event adds three new maps to the game including Eichenwald's Black Forest,  an old Dorado fort known as Castillo, and the Egyptian themed Necropolis. In addition, Blizzard has added over 100 customization options such as themes, sprays, and new dance emotes into special Anniversary themed loot boxes. For many however, the real draw for this event comes with brand new skins for many of the game's popular characters.

For this special event, Overwatch is going big with character skins, adding in eleven legendaries for players to either buy with in game currency or to have a chance to unlock through loot boxes. Fans have long been requesting new skins for popular characters like Hanzo and Symmetra, who are thankfully well represented in this update. Here's a look at all of the new skins in this update.

This anniversary update also marks the start of what Blizzard is calling year 2 for the game. Jeff Kaplan, the public facing game director on Overwatch, confirmed that the team won't be adding new events to the title this year to prevent any sort of possible fatigue. Instead, the studio plans to continue to refine and adjust the existing set of events already such as the popular Junkenstein's Revenge, or the Olympic themed Summer Games.

In addition, the popular animated character shorts, which have not been seen since Sombra was introduced, are also making a come back in year 2. Though no timetable has been set for when the new shorts will make their appearance, nor has Blizzard confirmed which characters are going to be featured, the studio is looking forward to creating more of these mini trailers as it gives them a way to expand upon the lore and story for this franchise.
