While each Overwatch event has its strengths, the Anniversary event usually offers some of the coolest outfits for the game’s cast of heroes. This year, Baptiste is seeing this trend continue, as Overwatch fans are already showing some interest in his newest look.

While Baptiste is a strong hero, he has always been lacking in the skin department. Similar to Zarya in the game’s first few years, Baptiste’s lineup of costumes has been lacking, with only a few of the alternate looks giving his default appearance competition. However, like Zarya, Baptiste has gotten better skins in the time since his release, with his Lunar New Year 2021 skin pleasing fans. Thanks to the next Anniversary event, the hero may finally have a beloved alternate costume.

A huge advantage of Overwatch’s Anniversary events is the fact that the skins do not need to stick to a particular theme, and “Funky” Baptiste is a prime example of this. Coming completely out of nowhere, the stylish version of Baptiste looks like he was ripped straight out of the 1980s. Dropping his signature hairstyle for a classic afro, the design is a ton of fun from the start. The use of a pair of orange shades in place of a visor only makes it more entertaining, with Baptiste’s full beard being a nice look for the character.

While the hairstyle and changes to the 30th Overwatch hero are the star of the show, his outfit is deserving of praise as well. Baptiste would be easy to picture on the dance floor in this outfit, as his red jacket would look great under a disco ball. The patterned yellow shirt matches the vibe of the skin well, as does the popped collar around the healer’s neck. Reminding fans that he is a medic, though, Baptiste wears a gold medallion with a cross symbol around his neck.

Baptiste’s jeans are awesome as well, as they grow looser the further down his legs they get. Matching the style of the time, this design detail is a lot of fun, and the belt buckle reading “groovy” is the icing on the cake. While Baptiste’s weapon and the device on his back are fairly basic, the skin itself is more than worthy of the hype.

With the Overwatch community sharing their excitement in the comments of the Overwatch Twitter’s post, plenty should be opening loot boxes to get the skin come May 18. The event will end on June 8, giving players the standard three weeks of time.

Hopefully, the event satisfies gamers a bit more than Overwatch’s Archives 2021 event did. While fans can expect all the skins to be available during the event’s runtime like with the other Anniversaries, many are likely expecting something special since the game is turning 5 years old.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
