While the Overwatch 2 beta has shown how much more fun Tanks are in the sequel, it is no secret that the Support class is struggling. Fortunately, it seems like Blizzard is very aware of this, as a recent Overwatch 2 update has given Zenyatta a boost to his melee attack.

This is a fairly significant change, as a majority of Overwatch heroes do the same amount of damage with their melee attacks. However, Zenyatta’s kicks are now 50% stronger than regular Overwatch melee attacks, which gives him a way to defend himself up close. While this is a nice bonus, the real benefit of the Snap Kick ability is that it sends enemies flying, something that can launch them toward teammates or off the map.

While other Support heroes in Overwatch 2 still need some changes, like Brigitte and Mercy, gamers are having a lot of fun with this change to Zenyatta. In particular, Reddit user profanewingss put on an incredible display with Zen’s Snap Kick, pulling off a Play of the Game that they will likely remember for some time. Taking place on the map Oasis, the Zenyatta player wracked up multiple kills using nothing but Zenyatta’s newly buffed melee attack.

The clip begins with a Mei player being thrown right off the side of the map, unable to do anything to fight back against the Zenyatta that is patrolling near the staircases. Shortly after this kill, a Hanzo player flees from a Reinhardt’s fire strike, running up the stairs to grab a health back and get back to their team. However, the Zenyatta is still lying in wait, and they land another Snap Kick that sends the Hanzo right off the map. While this double kill would have been hilarious, the Zenyatta player was not done.

Right after the Hanzo is killed, a Wrecking Ball zooms up the stairs, bouncing and moving to the left of the Zenyatta. However, some fast reaction time from profanewingss allows them to land a kick on the mid-air Hamster, launching them off the map and down to the ground below to join Mei and Hanzo. While not every map will have areas like this for Zenyatta to lie in wait, being able to launch multiple enemies in a row is a huge deal. Heroes like D.Va and Lucio can only send one enemy flying at a time, so players fighting against a Zenyatta clearly need to be very aware of their surroundings or risk falling to their deaths.

It will be interesting to see if any other characters get melee damage increases, or if this boost will remain exclusive to Zenyatta. Regardless, for Zenyatta players tired of getting swarmed by flankers like Sombra, Genji, and Tracer, having a new form of self defense is a big deal.
