The Overwatch 2 developers share a blog post updating fans on aspects of gameplay they are looking at internally. This is to guarantee that the player experience at all skill levels is balanced for the remainder of Season 1.

With the opening week server issues mostly behind them, Overwatch 2 developers have shared one of their first blog posts that mainly focuses on the gameplay, hero balancing, and the map pool. This blog post mainly covered gameplay and didn't address any of the issues that have hampered the first week of Overwatch 2. While nowhere near the levels of disruption as the first week, there are still players experiencing server issues, account glitches like the FTUE hero lockout glitch, and issues with the shop currency balancing. These still are serious issues that Blizzard may be saving for a later post or will continue to work on silently in the background as they work to stabilize the game further.

The Overwatch 2 developers use a metric of hero win rate to determine how popular a particular hero is in the game. If a hero's win rate falls too far above or below 45%-55%, Blizzard will look to make changes to that hero. As of now, there are no heroes that currently fall far out of that range, and they are most comfortable with the balance of the game right now. However, they are aware that Zarya is famously overpowered in Total Mayhem and are working on a mode-specific change to her in the next major patch scheduled for October 25.

The developers sound mostly comfortable with the pick rate and win rate throughout all roles in the game. While D.Va seems to be a popular pick among players, the rest of the tank roster is still seeing steady play in games. During the last public beta and the Overwatch League Summer Showdown tournament, Junker Queen became a "must-pick" tank. They have given her a nerf implemented to the current patch that has seen her return to the mean with the rest of the tanks. In addition, the developers are keeping an eye on Doomfist as his appeal seems to be waning, and may make changes to his Power Block and Meteor Strike in Season 2.

After players' initial excitement for Kiriko saw her pick rate balloon to 75%, she has now fallen back to the range that Overwatch developers like to see. The developers acknowledge that there is a limited map pool in the game right now, and players have a fixed time of day for maps that are currently playable. Some maps like Rialto have been excluded for now, but they have not addressed why Numbani is completely missing from Overwatch 2.

The team acknowledges that there is a bug in the Competitive Mode that has placed players lower than expected. The most recent patch addressed this issue and players should already be seeing the correction to place them closer to their true rank. They also address an input response issue that Overwatch players on PC may be experiencing and offer tips on how to correct it.

Overwatch 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
