A fan of Overwatch 2 has shown off a fully AI-created skin for Torbjorn, which gives the Swedish engineer a Transformers-like makeover by making him fully robotic. Overwatch 2 introduces a long list of new cosmetic items and skins, including a new Mythic rarity tier which introduces luminescent and fully-customizable skins for players to earn.

Largely due to its transition to a free-to-play title for all players, Overwatch 2 has put a lot of emphasis on the sales of character skins, highlight intros, sprays, emotes, and other cosmetic items. Unlike the original game, players are now only able to gain access to these unlocks by purchasing them with Overwatch Coins, the game's new virtual currency. Though this virtual currency is intended to be purchased with real money, players can unlock Overwatch Coins for free by completing the game's weekly challenges, albeit in very small amounts. Although the game also features its own seasonal battle passes now, fans will have to pay the equivalent of $10 for the premium battle pass if they want to gain access to every reward offered on the pass, including the Mythic skin on the final tier.

While this Transformers-like Torbjorn skin looks very much like it could be an Overwatch 2 Mythic skin in its own right, it is in fact entirely AI-generated. The computer-made artwork was shared in a post on Reddit by a user named TotallyNotSketchy7 and shows a side-by-side comparison of Torbjorn's standard Overwatch 2 skin next to the AI-generated one. This incredible image appears to be nearly indiscernible from manmade art at a glance, though a more in-depth look may reveal some abnormalities to the eyes of seasoned artists. Torbjorn's hammer, however, is noticeably problematic in the AI-made work, instead appearing in the image as some sort of paint splash.

Overwatch 2's removal of loot boxes, along with the expensive new methods of acquiring skins, have left fans with no reliable methods of earning skins for free. This has persistently been among the largest of community complaints since the launch of the game, removing much of the game's fun for players who enjoyed collecting cosmetics and other rewards through gameplay.

While fans are excited about the plethora of upcoming Season 2 content, including many Greek mythology-inspired Overwatch 2 cosmetics, many players are still disappointed that the methods of unlocking them, along with the prices, are hardly likely to change. Though Blizzard has announced that certain event-specific skins will be obtainable for free in the future, it's unclear if the developers will consider community feedback and continue to adjust prices in the future.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
