Several months have passed since BlizzCon Online and Overwatch 2 fans are still trying to piece together more information about the upcoming title. Though Overwatch 2 lacked a meaningful update during BlizzCon 2021, the developers took to Reddit and hosted an ask-me-anything forum after the event to help address the many questions fans have about both Overwatch and its sequel. It was in this platform that the team confirmed that though the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, some compromises will have to be made to the port, specifically within its visual features.

For the duration of BlizzCon 2021, the development team still continued to reveal a lot of information about the game. This included the Overwatch 2 character redesigns, new and refurbished maps, and the controversial switch to 5v5 player teams. Though this provides players with a lot of new details to mull over, fans are likely still wondering when and which platform the game will drop onto first.

Over at the Overwatch subReddit, the Blizzard development team opened up a forum as a celebration of Overwatch’s fifth anniversary. One of the questions posted by a user asked the team about the highly-detailed Overwatch 2 visuals, and whether these would be implemented on the Nintendo Switch. John Lafleur, the Technical Director in the team, answered the query, stating that the team is ensuring that players will get the best experience in each platform. Noting that porting Overwatch 2 onto the Switch has proven challenging, Lafleur confirmed that there will be compromises. However, he does state that the team is making sure that all gameplay features are there, before they focus on visual enhancements.

The user also noted that they were a solely Switch player, and worried that the Overwatch 2 graphic improvements will not be applicable on the platform. Given that the Switch may not be as powerful as a decked out desktop or other next-gen platforms such as the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, there is likely valid logic behind the user’s question. Other users also asked questions about cross-play in Overwatch 2, and even cross-progression between platforms. Lafleur tackled this inquiry by stating the team will most likely focus on cross-play first, before working on cross-progression. This is if, and when, the team will work on these features.

Nevertheless, Overwatch 2 fans are likely satisfied with all the new updates Blizzard has shared about the title. Now, all fans have left to do is wait for the official release date on when they can finally play the highly-anticipated sequel.

Overwatch 2 is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
