Overwatch 2 was recently featured at BlizzCon 2021, where the developers offered some deeper insight into Hero Missions and showed off the New York and Rome maps. However, Blizzard has set a precedent that Overwatch at BlizzCon means a new hero reveal, and when that didn't happen, some fans were understandably disappointed. However, while no explicit character reveal happened at BlizzCon, it's still possible that the company left some clues pointing to new heroes.

In fact, some Overwatch 2 fans think that they've potentially spotted new hero Soundquake in the BlizzCon 2021 Behind the Scenes footage. For the uninitiated, Soundquake is a character that was first teased in the Overwatch cinematic trailer all the way back in 2014, but he hasn't actually been seen in-game or any other kind of Overwatch media. The only thing known about Soundquake is that he shoots missiles from his chest, which is why some fans think that a large robot seen in the Behind the Scenes footage could be Soundquake.

This speculation was posted to Reddit by user Youngstown_Mafia, though others were quick to poke holes in the theory. Evidently, the image is actually of an Overwatch PvE enemy that already exists in the game, whereas the other images in the post are of other characters entirely. This includes Wildebeest, who evidently become Tank hero Reinhardt, as well as a character from a fictional, in-universe game.

While this particular Overwatch 2 Soundquake theory may not pan out, it is known that Blizzard is preparing new heroes for the sequel. So far, the only new hero confirmed for Overwatch 2 is Sojourn, and very little is known about her to date. The assumption is that Sojourn will be yet another Damage hero, though Blizzard has not officially announced her class at the time of this writing.

In the meantime, there are some "leaked" Overwatch heroes that could eventually come to the game. Blizzard is reportedly working on a fox hero named Yokai, plus it's been teased that Baptiste's ally Mauga could be added as a new Tank hero. These characters stand a much better chance at coming to the game than Soundquake, especially since Soundquake hasn't been mentioned since the 2014 cinematic trailer.

Blizzard has promised more frequent Overwatch 2 updates now that BlizzCon 2021 is over, so hopefully fans can get a look at some new heroes coming to the game sooner rather than later. This way fans can stop speculating about hidden clues in Behind the Scenes footage and start speculating about how those characters could shake up the game.

Overwatch 2 is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
