Blizzard has released the long-awaited Season 2 update for hero shooter Overwatch 2, which changes up the map pools by removing certain maps, adding new ones to the mix, and bringing back maps that players haven't seen since Overwatch 1. With Overwatch 2, Blizzard has decided to tweak map pools so certain maps aren't seen in Competitive Play and Quick Play playlists in certain seasons, though the maps will always be available in custom matches.

The Overwatch 2 Season 2 update is a significant one for the hero shooter. Not only does it add new Tank hero Ramattra to the roster of playable characters, but it also adds the new Shambali Monastery map. Shambali Monastery is a new Escort map set at night where players visit the temple that Ramattra and Zenyatta lived before the former became the leader of the Null Sector terrorist group.

While Overwatch 2 players will notice the Shambali Monastery in map rotations, they will also see that a couple of maps that were mainstays in Season 1 are no longer in playlists. For Season 2, Overwatch 2 players shouldn't expect to run into the Hollywood or Watchpoint Gibraltar maps. They will likely return in a future season, but Blizzard has yet to reveal those specific plans at the time of this writing.

While not the same as brand-new maps, these tweaks should still help existing Overwatch 2 maps feel fresh compared to Season 1.

In the meantime, some fans will undoubtedly notice that Numbani is still missing from Overwatch 2. It's unclear when Blizzard plans on bringing Numbani back into the fold, but it seems that fans are going to have to wait for Season 3 at the earliest.

With Overwatch 2 Season 2 just barely underway, it will likely be some time before Blizzard reveals its Season 3 plans for the game. For now, Overwatch 2 players can check out everything Season 2 has to offer, from Ramattra to Shambali Monastery to the new lineup of playlist maps.

Overwatch 2 is available now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
