Overwatch 2's new Tank hero was revealed during the OWL Grand Finals on November 4th 2022. Blizzard unveiled Ramattra, the leader of the Omnic terrorist organization Null Sector, as their next new character. This contrasted against the reports that Mauga would be the next playable hero.

Who Is Ramattra?

Originally coined by the Overwatch community as "Null Hector," Ramattra has now been fleshed out into a legitimate character and will soon be joining the hero roster of Overwatch 2 on Tuesday, December 6th, the same date as Season 2. He has many ties with other beloved Overwatch 2 characters, like Support hero Zenyatta as they once considered each other 'brothers.'

Ramattra is an Omnic, an artificially-intelligent automaton designed for military uses. After the Omnic Crisis, Ramttra retreated to Nepal to study at the Shambali Monastery, where he met Zenyatta. After seeing humanity's treatment of Omnics, he abandoned these peaceful methods. He resolved to join the Null Sector, a militia organization formed in response to the treatment of Omnics. He has essentially become an antihero to the peaceful monk Zenyatta, and their future in-game dialogue will reveal more of their history and lore.

In his origin story, Ramattra can be heard saying: "We [the Omnics] have meditated on the universe and our place in it. But humanity is not interested in sharing their world. How many more should perish to fuel mankind's dream? No more!" As he says this, images of riots with Omnic fatalities play in the background, with Ramattra cradling a fallen Omnic ally. His inflammatory words highlight how the Null Sector became more aggressive with their approaches as they desired equality for Omnics.

What Are Rammatra's Abilities?

Ramattra's kit and mechanics are vague, as his gameplay was not demonstrated in the trailer, with Blizzard only revealing that he will be categorized as a Tank hero. They have stated that his core features are his two forms: The basic Omnic form and his tankier Nemesis form, both granting him different abilities.

His ability to shapeshift into a hulking brute will provide offensive capabilities for his team to initiate an aggressive charge to claim objectives and infiltrate enemy team formations. Blizzard has likened his attack capabilities to DPS hero Bastion.

Blizzard has confirmed that Ramattra will arrive with the launch of the second season of Overwatch 2 on December 6th, so those interested in playing him will not have to wait long. This is keeping in line with their promise for new hero additions during even-numbered seasons. Controversially, Ramattra will be the first new hero to which original Overwatch players will not have immediate access. Every player will have to reach tier 55 of the battle pass to be able to play him or purchase the premium pass for instant access.

Overwatch 2 is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
