Ramattra's introduction to Overwatch 2 will make him the 36th hero and 11th tank available in the game. Once a member of the peaceful Shambali Omnic monks, Ramattra's dislike for how humans treated Omnics after the Omnic Crisis pushed him to violence. Now known as the leader of the extremist group Null Sector, Ramattra fights for Omnic rights by whatever means necessary.

The face of Null Sector's abilities were recently revealed last weekend by Activision Blizzard in an Overwatch 2 reveal event. While in his smaller Omnic form, Ramattra draws upon his ability to project damaging projectiles and protective barriers to defeat his enemies and defend his allies respectively. His Nemesis form allows him to adopt a more tank-like stature and deal damage with his fists and shield his allies with his larger hitbox. But no matter which form players choose to transform into, Ramattra will always possess the ability to slow and ground targets.

What Is Ravenous Vortex?

Aside from his primary weapons and defensive abilities, Ramattra also has access to Ravenous Vortex. Activating the ability causes Ramattra to fire a nano ball that explodes when it hits the ground and generates a temporary 4-meter radius circle for 3 seconds. Enemies caught in the nano ball's explosion radius will take 10 damage and any who linger in the created circle afterward will be slowed down and pulled downwards. Enemies that are in the air will be slowed by 33% of their normal movement speed as they are pulled planetside while those that are already grounded will simply find their movements more sluggish.

No Movement Makes For Sitting Ducks

In a game as movement-heavy as Overwatch 2, being slowed or grounded is a very big disadvantage. Heroes like Tracer, Lucio, and Genji are dependent on their speed and mobility, as their health pools aren't the largest in the game's roster. Likewise, heroes that can take to the air like Pharah, Mercy, and Echo can make life difficult for hitscan opponents that need to track their movements whilst having to deal with other enemies.

Ramattra's Ravenous Vortex is a godsend for players that are tired of dealing with Overwatch 2's movement-based heroes, especially those that love to wail on low-mobility enemy tanks. Provided that Ramattra can catch his foes in the radius of his Ravenous Vortex, he can essentially render most heroes obsolete and make them easy targets for his team. As it stands, the initial nano ball that creates the Ravenous Vortex looks to be a slow-moving projectile. Players have to predict where high-mobility heroes will be or where they could serve as the biggest nuisance for their team and shoot Ravenous Votrex pre-emptively to slow them down (this makes the ability work much like Sojourn's Disruptor Shot). It's a high-risk, high-reward ability, as players who fail to get value out of Ravenous Vortex have to wait a good 12 seconds before they can fire it again.

Ravenous Vortex is one of the few tank abilities in the game that allows the anchor point of the team to stop or slow enemy movement and give them a chance to fight back. It is best utilized against dive compositions that include the likes of Tracer and Winston as well as flying heroes like the ever-annoying Pharah-Mercy combo. As long as players manage to catch foes in the purple slowing circle, they can finally put an end to the enemy team's attempts to get the jump on them.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
