An Overwatch 2 fan has offered up concepts for reworking the Push game mode with 2CP maps that are no longer in use. With the release of Overwatch 2, Blizzard decided to retire the two capture point game mode and replace it with Push. It's a decision largely supported by the competitive Overwatch community, but has raised concern over Push's own issues. One player has offered their idea for how to use 2CP maps to help improve Push.

Rather than try to solve the innate issues with the Push game mode, the Overwatch 2 fan addresses a different issue. Namely, many Overwatch fans miss the 2CP maps that have been retired. That's not to say that they disagree with 2CP being retired. They just spent a lot of time on those 2CP maps and are nostalgic for them, hoping that they will see use again. The Push mode could potentially capitalize on that opportunity.

Reddit user Hyaljaber shared several pieces of concept art transforming classic 2CP maps into new Push maps. They created map designs for Push versions of Hanamura, Volskaya Industries, Temple of Anubis, Horizon Lunar colony, and Paris. They even mapped out the path that the Push robot would take on each map, as well as where spawns would adjust when the robot is pushed far enough along the path.

While the maps wouldn't fix the issues that have cropped up with Push, which have to do with perceived imbalance based on which team builds a certain amount of momentum early, the maps do address something different. Namely, the nostalgia and enjoyment that Overwatch players had on these maps would bring levity and fun to the Push game mode that could at least lessen the impact of potential balance frustrations. It would also expand the map pool for Push, which is currently limited to only three maps.

Unfortunately, some Reddit users have some valid criticisms of Hyaljaber's maps. Push maps tend to have some overlap, allowing for shortcuts to "catch up" to the robot or to flank enemies. All of Hyaljaber's tend to have very linear paths without shortcut opportunities. That could be easily remedied with some light redesigns, though.

Overall, it's just one Overwatch 2 fan trying to celebrate something they're nostalgic about by offering up an idea for Blizzard to consider. That's something every community should celebrate, and is part of what has made Overwatch so special for years now. Here's hoping that Blizzard will find ways to address Push frustrations and players' requests for old 2CP maps to return in one way or another.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
