While many will cite the high-octane, team-based gameplay of Overwatch 2 as its main allure, the wider franchise has always been lauded for its intricate lore that fuels an ongoing narrative and main conflict. Considering the playable hero roster of the franchise is constantly being added to, the lore of the title is constantly evolving, and that is especially true for the Omnics.

At its core, the primary driving force behind Overwatch 2 is a long-spanning battle between the human race and highly intelligent robots referred to as Omnics. This part of Overwatch 2's narrative has long been represented by playable heroes, with some of the most beloved characters in the franchise being Omnics themselves. While there are other robotic and intelligent heroes like Orissa and Echo, these heroes are human-made in order to combat human forces, and so do not fall under the Omnic label.

Overwatch 2: Ramattra

Ramattra is the latest hero introduced to Overwatch 2; a tank hero who is already shaking up the shooter's meta. Ramattra is the most overtly Omnic-aligned character in the game, still holding onto a disdain for the human race. Ramattra was created as a machine of war during the Omnic Crisis, who developed a philosophy of survival by any means for the Omnic species.

This came with a complete disregard for the plight of humanity, with Ramattra eventually rising to the head of Null Sector - an extremist organization with the sole goal of liberating Omnics across the globe. While Ramattra will begrudgingly work alongside humans in Overwatch 2's general gameplay, he remains firmly in allegiance with his Omnic brethren.

Overwatch 2: Zenyatta

Zenyatta is a support hero in Overwatch 2 who has long been a part of the wider franchise, being one of the original 12 heroes to launch with Overwatch in 2016. Zenyatta was created prior to the Omnic revolt as a standard robotic worker within human society.

Zenyatta and Ramattra can be considered close friends, with the two Omnics originally working alongside each other within the Shambali - a post-crisis organization of Omnics who believed in spirituality between man and machine. Zenyatta's relationship with Ramattra broke down as the latter became more of an extremist, with Zenyatta instead dedicating his existence to achieving peace through common understanding and spirituality. He would go on to become the mentor of the damage hero Genji.

Overwatch 2: Bastion

The last character in Overwatch 2's roster that can be considered an Omnic is the damage hero, Bastion. Bastion is another veteran to the franchise, being one of the original heroes introduced alongside Zenyatta.

Bastion is one of thousands of Bastion units, who like Echo and Orissa were originally created by humans. However, these peacekeeping Bastion units were turned against humans during the Omnic Crisis, ultimately making up the main portion of Omnic forces. Bastion is unique in that he was left abandoned on the battlefield for over a decade, losing most of his Omnic programming in the process. Upon awakening, Bastion acted as a more sentient and autonomous being, seemingly able to make his own decisions outside the control of any outside forces. While there are currently only a handful of Omnics in Overwatch 2's player roster, it is more than likely fans will see more as the sequel progresses and adds new heroes.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
