One particularly high-level Overwatch 2 player has revealed that fans who reach maximum level on the battle pass and earn every prestige title are able to earn and "bank" tiers for the next season's battle pass. The new shop and battle pass system introduced with Overwatch 2 is not dissimilar to other battle pass mechanics typically seen in other live service games, but the prices of cosmetic bundles paired with the game's rough launch period has sparked some unrest within the community over the past few weeks.

Overwatch 2's battle pass, like most others, allows players to unlock cosmetic items such as skins, voice lines, and sprays by earning XP to reach the next tier. Players can earn small amounts of XP from playing matches, but completing daily, weekly, and seasonal challenges offers large amounts of bonus XP that rewards fans who play consistently. The battle pass includes 80 tiers of rewards, though players can continue to earn a number of prestige titles for their account until they reach the maximum level of 200.

A post made on Reddit by the user meme_review_hoster shows that upon reaching the maximum level on the current battle pass, players are able to continue earning XP that contributes to tiers on the next seasonal battle pass that will be introduced to the game. This should allow eager players to get a head start on unlocking the rewards offered in the next season of Overwatch 2, which is set to begin on December 6th. Further, this means that players won't need to worry about any of their playtime going entirely unrewarded.

Though some rewards on the battle pass can be claimed for free, most of the prizes on offer are exclusive to the premium battle pass, which can be purchased from the shop for 1000 Overwatch Coins, which is equivalent to $10. While leveling up on the next battle pass in advance is certainly helpful to players, it's worth keeping in mind that the current battle pass model in Overwatch 2 doesn't feature any method of earning Overwatch Coins, the in-game currency. Players will likely need to purchase each seasonal battle pass separately if they hope to claim every available reward.

While many players agree that the premium battle pass offers excellent value for the number of cosmetics it offers, the community hasn't been as pleased with the costs of bundles and individual skins seen in Overwatch 2's shop. The complaints have become even louder in response to the recently-released Halloween themed bundles, with the new Witch Kiriko bundle costing a sharp $20 and no option to purchase the skin separately. While the battle pass offers more than enough for some, many fans continue to urge Blizzard to tone down some of the prices going forward.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
