Overwatch fans have been dealing with a drought for the last few years. New content updates have slowed down considerably since Blizzard's popular hero-shooter was at the height of its popularity, with the team focusing its efforts on making Overwatch 2. Now that Overwatch 2 is nearing release, Blizzard has confirmed its ambitious plans for the game, revealing a roadmap that confirms the new content fans can look forward to in the months ahead.

The Overwatch 2 early access release date is October 4, and at that point, fans can expect the launch of Season 1. Overwatch 2 Season 1 will get things started with three new heroes, two of which have already been revealed. The first new hero is Damage hero Sojourn, who was first revealed back in 2019 and was featured in the first Overwatch 2 PvP beta. The second new hero is Tank hero Junker Queen, who was first unveiled at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. The third hero will be revealed in the months ahead, though we know it will be a new Support hero, and it's believed that it will be the previously leaked hero that has a spirit fox for a pet.

Overwatch 2 Season 1 will also see the release of six new maps, the new Push game mode for PvP, over 30 new skins, and one new Mythic Skin. For the uninitiated, Mythic Skins are a new tier of skins in Overwatch 2 that have customizable elements. Season 2 will start on December 6, and at that point, Overwatch 2 players can look forward to a new Tank hero, a new map, 30+ more skins, another new Mythic Skin, and a new Battle Pass. After that, Overwatch 2 players can expect a new hero every other season and a new map in the seasons in-between. It was teased that the first couple of seasons will see the addition of two more Support heroes and another Tank.

Overwatch 2 Roadmap

Overwatch 2 has big plans for 2023, and while details on what next year will mean for the hero-shooter remain mostly vague, Blizzard did tease fans about what they can expect. Overwatch 2's 2023 plans include more new heroes, more new maps, more new game modes, over 100 new skins, and of course, the highly-anticipated launch of the PvE mode. The community has been asking for an Overwatch 2 PvE story mode since the first game launched, and they'll finally get their hands on it next year, though it will be released in pieces as seasonal content.

Of course, fans don't have to wait until October 4 to get their hands on the game. The next Overwatch 2 PvP beta will take place on June 28.

Overwatch 2 launches in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on October 4.
