A fan of Overwatch 2 has shared a clip of support character Mercy absolutely decimating an opposing team with her pistol, earning play of the game in the process. Over the years, many fans of Blizzard’s hero shooter have complained that Mercy is overpowered, and for some players, this video may serve to reinforce those claims.
Mercy is a support character in Overwatch 2, capable of healing her teammates and providing crucial damage buffs that can help turn the tide of battle. Her Caduceus Staff allows her to heal allies and provide a buff that temporarily bypasses barriers, making her an invaluable addition to any Overwatch 2 team. While not designed as a primarily offensive character, Mercy’s Caduceus Blaster pistol lets her deliver death from above when combined with her Ultimate ability, Valkyrie. The Caduceus Blaster features a high rate of fire and a larger hitbox than many other weapons in Overwatch 2, which has led to calls from some players for Blizzard to nerf Mercy’s gun.
In a video shared on r/overwatch2, Reddit user rizundah combines all of Mercy’s abilities in one impressive play to deliver a win for their team and earn play of the game. In the short clip, rizundah quickly dispatches an enemy with their pistol before activating Mercy’s Ultimate ability, Valkyrie, letting them take to the skies. Zipping around across the battlefield, rizundah heals their teammates using Mercy's Caduceus Staff before dispatching multiple foes with the Caduceus Blaster while still airborne. Commenting on the video, rizundah stated that their teammates were failing at killing the other team, so they had to take matters into their own hands.
Many Overwatch 2 fans responding to the clip congratulated rizundah on the impressive play, with some Reddit users sharing off their own strategies for making the best use of Mercy’s abilities. One impressed commenter, who states that they usually play as Widowmaker, remarked that they grew fearful whenever they heard a Mercy player using Valkyrie due to the deadliness of her pistol when buffed by the Ultimate. The angelic support character has undergone several balance tweaks since the first Overwatch, including changes made to Mercy’s super jump after feedback received during the Overwatch 2 beta.
This Overwatch 2 clip is a great example of why Blizzard’s multiplayer shooter has managed to maintain such a large and loyal fanbase. By featuring heroes with weapons and move sets that allow for more depth than the standard archetypes of tank, healer, etc., Overwatch 2 lets players be creative with how they choose to play.
