Overwatch 2 recently announced the Junker Queen–a new tank hero coming to the game when it enters early access later this year. Alongside the announcement, Overwatch 2 also shared an Origin Story short for the Junker Queen which tells of her rise to power in the form of a punk rock anthem.

Though the Junker Queen was only recently confirmed as a new playable hero in Overwatch 2, players guessed she would be coming for years. During a recent reveal event, Blizzard took a deep dive into the Junker Queen’s backstory and kit in Overwatch 2.

The Junker Queen Origin Story operates in a slideshow-like form like many Overwatch Origin Stories. However, instead of personal narration by the character themselves, the Junker Queen’s Origin story is sung instead. The catchy punk jam is performed by none other than Amyl and the Sniffers, a pub and punk rock band based in Melbourne, Australia–the same nation as the Junker Queen in the Overwatch universe. The final verse itself is sung by the Australian-Sri Lankan voice actress Leah de Niese, who voices the Junker Queen herself.

Overwatch 2 shared Junker Queen’s Origin Story alongside the animated short, “The Wastelander.” The video, which was Overwatch’s first animated short in nearly three years, showed how Odessa “Dez” Stone claimed the crown and title of Junker Queen and took the throne of Junkertown. It also showed off the Junker Queen’s moxie and charisma, as well as the new Tank hero’s kit in Overwatch 2.

Players are understandably excited for the Junker Queen in Overwatch 2. They got a taste of the Mad Max-like wastelands of Australia with Junkrat, Roadhog, and the Junkertown map, but the Junker Queen adds a whole new spin on the lore of the Outback. On top of that, her aesthetic as a punk rock icon is quite popular, and many players can’t wait to play her–both because of the Junker Queen's looks and abilities in Overwatch 2.

PvP in Overwatch 2 is changing in some pretty big ways. For starters, teams will now consist of five players, rather than the six from Overwatch. The Junker Queen is the first tank hero designed from the ground up to be a solo tank with these 5v5 skirmishes in mind, so many players are interested to see how the aggressive hero compares to other tanks. Players will not have to wait long to find out–the next Overwatch 2 beta event starts on June 28th, and it will be available on both PC and consoles.

Overwatch 2 launches in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 4.
