With the sheer quantity of heroes, even a veteran of Overwatch 2 needs a refresher on their hero's moves. Players shouldn't feel guilty wanting to get a quick overview, especially in games where random heroes are assigned to players.

This used to be simple, but the button has been moved since the original game. Instead of pulling up abilities, the old left on the D-pad button brings up a ping menu. That's convenient, but some Overwatch 2 players are still wondering where the old skill description is.

Checking Out Hero Abilities With A Keyboard

Overwatch 2 How To Find Hero Abilities

The button at the beginning that says to hold F1 for hero abilities while inside of the respawn area also works outside of the area. Even better, players can hold F1 and still control their character. It's best not to do this in a fight, but gamers can run and read simultaneously without being in imminent danger.

If the skills don't look great, don't be scared to jump back into the respawn area and change heroes. This can be done even after leaving the initial zone. Hop back into the respawn area, change heroes, and grab a hero ready to get a team kill.

Checking Out Hero Abilities With A Controller

Overwatch 2 Having Controller Check Hero Information
  • Pause Menu > Options > Controls > Interface > Hero Information > Bind Button

Using a controller makes this process a good deal more difficult. While it is possible to check all the unlocked hero abilities in the game out of the respawn area, players have to jump through some hoops and then make a tough decision.

While these are a good chunk of steps, the real issue comes with deciding which button to bind. Most of them are already in use. The old default was left on the D-pad, but that now pings information to teammates, which can be a big deal, especially in competitive play. Check out the rest of the buttons in the control menu, determine which one feels the least useful, and then replace it.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
