Overwatch 2 has been predictably prominent within the news cycle of the gaming industry since its release in early access on October 4. With the new title effectively reviving the Overwatch community to a level of interaction that it has not seen for some time, the free-to-play nature of the release has opened the game to an even wider pool of potential players.

As part of its promise to continually release new content over the course of its life cycle, Overwatch 2 recently began its highly-anticipated Halloween Terror seasonal event. The main content of this event concerns limited-time cooperative PvE missions, and the Wrath of the Bride mission has a litany of challenges and potential rewards for players.

The Fundamentals of Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 is the attention-grabbing sequel to 2013's Overwatch, a class-based arena shooter set from a first-person perspective that became massively popular in the years following its release. Like its predecessor, Overwatch 2 prides itself on this same competitive online gameplay, maintaining much of the same characters and player progression from its predecessor.

While boasting new maps, game modes, and playable heroes, the majority of unique content for Overwatch 2 is set to be released periodically in the future, with the game currently facing criticism for its similarities between itself and the original Overwatch as it stands. Most of this upcoming content will likely be released alongside new seasonal Battle Passes, a monetization strategy that the game has chosen as opposed to the original's paid lootbox system.

For example, Overwatch 2 is set to receive its own PvE campaign mode in 2023, which will make up a bulk of the wholly original content that the game will possess. Furthering the lore of the franchise and its character development, many fans are disappointed at the long wait for this mode but are still thoroughly engaging in the game's many PvP experiences.

Overwatch 2's Halloween Terror Event

Starting on October 25 and being set to run until November 8, the Halloween Terror event has been massively anticipated by fans who are now finally getting to experience it. Halloween Terror events have long been a seasonal staple of the Overwatch brand and are the first major content update that the new release has received.

This Halloween Terror event contains a slew of cooperative PvE spooky experiences for players to embark upon, giving fans an indicator of what to expect from the aforementioned upcoming 2023 PvE mode for the title. Set in sinister re-skins of pre-existing maps and featuring a select roster of Overwatch 2's playable heroes, the Halloween Terror event features Junkenstein's Revenge missions which see players defend a castle from waves of grunt and boss enemy types.

However, the main content of Overwatch 2's Halloween Terror event comes from the Wrath of the Bride mission, which is a more linear and narrative experience involving the three new heroes of the title as well as Ashe. Most of the challenges associated with this new seasonal event concern the Wrath of the Bride mission, fostering an environment where players are encouraged to replay the mission over the course of its availability. While these challenges are associated with rewards like battle pass experience, name cards, and sprays, many are disappointed that no Halloween skins are available through natural play, and must all be instead purchased from the in-game store.

Wrath of the Bride Rewards: Battle Pass XP

A majority of the challenges associated with the Wrath of the Bride mission in Overwatch 2's Halloween event offer a comprehensive amount of Battle Pass experience as rewards. With many already alleging that the progression within Overwatch 2's controversial Battle Pass is too slow, this limited seasonal event offers a great avenue for players to make some serious headway outside the main PvP modes of the release.

These challenges include completing the mission on the hardest available difficulties of Expert and Legendary. As well as this, Battle Pass experience rewards are also given for completing Wrath of the Bride without letting the Lord of the Castle take any damage, and for crouching at a lantern for six seconds while the Unstoppable Ghost boss is active. In all, players can earn 4,500 Battle Pass experience points from Wrath of the Bride-related challenges.

Wrath of the Bride Rewards: Voice Lines

Unlockable voice lines for different heroes are perhaps one of the most attractive categories of reward for Wrath of the Bride challenges, and there are plenty of them for players to earn. The easiest voice line to earn is the "Our Tale Begins" voice line for the Tank hero Reinhardt, which is unlocked for completing the mission on any difficulty.

Outside of this, players can earn a voice line for Ashe for destroying 15 Shock-Tire enemies, as well as a voice line for the new Tank Junker Queen for eliminating a cumulative 35 bosses within the mission. The new Support hero Kiriko has two unlockable voice lines, tied to challenges for disturbing the guest in the tavern and witnessing all seven Banshee moments in a single Wrath of the Bride run. Sombra is the last character with a voice line reward, which is unlocked if players complete the time-sensitive challenge of emoting next to her before her introduction cut scene begins towards the end of the mission.

Wrath of the Bride Rewards: Sprays and a Name Card

The last rewards tied to Wrath of the Bride challenges concern in-game sprays and a name card for player profile customization. Players can unlock the Zomnic Graffiti and Hasta La Muerte sprays for completing the mission on hard and for completing the mission with a combined team score of over 10,000 respectively.

There is only one available nameplate that is tied to a challenge for the Wrath of the Bride mission, being a picturesque semitransparent overlay of the Adlersbrunn location in which the mission takes place. This is unlocked for completing the mission four separate times with four different heroes, making it one of the more time-consuming challenges to complete. While there are an attractive array of rewards tied to Wrath of the Bride challenges, it remains that fans are eager to unlock more tangible rewards like cosmetics without having to pay.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
