A fan of Overwatch 2 shares a TikTok video of themselves using a clever hiding spot in the game’s Esperanca map, letting them stay out of sight of the enemy team while watching the match unfold. Set in a sunny, seaside Portuguese town, the Esperanca map is one of several new locations that made its debut in Blizzard’s Overwatch 2.

The free-to-play follow-up to Blizzard’s hit 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, Overwatch 2 features the return of the first game’s lineup of playable characters alongside some new additions to the roster. With new maps and tweaks to the series’ gameplay, including a controversial switch to 5v5 matches, Overwatch 2 is Blizzard’s attempt at keeping the franchise competitive in an era increasingly dominated by F2P titles. The multiplayer portion of the game was released in October, with an Overwatch 2 PVE mode set to launch in 2023.

In a video shared on TikTok, user lillithyx shows off a sneaky strategy they used to hide from an opposing team on the Esperanca map. The video shows lillithyx making their way through the cobblestone streets of the seaside town before stopping at an inconspicuous pile of rocks, at which point text states that you can sit on one of the rocks and not be seen. To prove their point lillithyx has her Mercy, decked out in one of Overwatch 2’s Legendary skins, sit down on the rock and promptly disappear into the background. Watching the match unfold around them, lillithyx is able to stay out of sight for nearly the entire match until finally being detected by Sombra’s hacking.

Some comments on the video expressed surprise that such a serious clipping issue was present in the game, calling for the map to be patched, while others pointed out that the hiding spot was less than ideal since players’ health bars would still peek out above the rock. Other Overwatch 2 fans noted that some characters, like Sombra, would be able to spot the hidden player using their special abilities. Some glitches with the game’s maps have proven to be less amusing to players, such as an Overwatch 2 bug that can trap players inside the enemy spawn room.

This entertaining clip goes to show that even a company like Blizzard, revered by many gamers for the typically polished nature of their releases, can let bugs slip through the cracks sometimes. Hunching down inside a rock probably isn’t the best choice for gamers seeking a winning strategy to climb the Overwatch 2 leaderboards, as this video clearly shows, but it just may be the best way yet to catch a quick breath while stealthily viewing the chaos unfold - just watch out for Sombra.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
