With Overwatch 2 marching ahead towards its early access release later this year, Blizzard has shared plenty of juicy details about the highly-anticipated sequel. Previous reveals have shown off the newest character in Junker Queen as well as several changes to the game's progression system with the removal of loot boxes and player levels. A recent AMA held on the Games subreddit has given fans a chance to get plenty of new information about the upcoming sequel from new gameplay tweaks to potential new characters.

The "Ask Me Anything" thread with Overwatch 2's dev team has provided a more in-depth look at what to expect from the sequel. Overwatch 2 developers have discussed a wide variety of topics throughout the session, including future plans for maps from the first game's "Assault" mode and plans for existing players' loot boxes. Overwatch 2 made waves when Blizzard confirmed the sequel would be shedding loot boxes in favor of a battle pass system. Now, one fan's question about a fan-favorite group from the Overwatch universe may hint at future characters for Overwatch 2.

During the AMA thread, one fan with the handle Simp4Dmon asked the Overwatch 2 team if there were plans to include more of D.Va's teammates from the MEKA Squad. A response from Overwatch 2's Senior Hero Designer, Blizz_JNoh, revealed that while there are currently no official plans, they personally would love to include more MEKA Squad members. D.Va is currently the only member of the South Korea-based unit included in the game with the asker's name likely referencing another member of the team, D.Mon.

While JNoh couldn't confirm anything about a potential future MEKA Squad member joining the game, Overwatch's characters were a big focus for many fans throughout the AMA. A previous response from one of Overwatch 2's developers discussed upcoming changes for Symmetra with plans to adjust the character to better suit the game's 5v5 scenario. Another dev also confirmed the upcoming PvP beta will feature all of the redesigned Heroes after some of the new looks were missing from the April beta period.

Previous reveals from Blizzard have shown that Overwatch 2 will come as a full-on replacement for the original Overwatch. Another developer response during the thread suggested that Overwatch 2 will be removing files from the original game, acting more like a major update than a separate sequel. Previous beta tests have also confirmed the sequel will be retaining the original game's controversial "role queue". The Overwatch 2 AMA has given fans plenty of insight into the upcoming sequel as the game's October release date approaches.

Overwatch 2 is in development with Early Access coming on October 4th, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
