A developer blog posted by the Overwatch 2 team provides an apology to all players who were inadvertently placed in a skill tier too low for them, along with an explanation as to the cause of the issue. The section of the post comes as a response to the complaints from many Overwatch 2 players that, due to a bug, found themselves being placed in the Bronze 5 skill tier, regardless of ability.

It's no secret that Overwatch 2 has had a rocky launch period throughout the last couple of weeks, with players regularly running into all manners of server issues, glitched heroes and game queues. Amid these problems, a number of competitive players were dismayed to find that they had been unfairly placed in Bronze 5, one of the lowest skill tiers in Overwatch 2.

Blizzard's post on its official website claims that the team had discovered a bug that was impacting players' skill ratings in Overwatch 2, leading some to be placed in the Bronze division when they should have been placed higher. The team reassures the community they have corrected this issue in one of the latest patches, while also taking additional measures to ensure that affected players are returned to their true skill tier as quickly as possible. A boost will be applied to players who already received a rank in the competitive mode to help them return to their respective placements.

The developers go on to tease that while they don't currently have any details to share, fans can expect to see further improvements to the competitive game mode in the future, potentially including enhancements to the presentation of player skill divisions and how players are able to celebrate their ranks in the game. While nothing has been confirmed, these comments could come as a response to player complaints surrounding the new skill rank icons in Overwatch 2.

Though the game has been off to a rough start, the community has been generally pleased to see the vast number of fixes that the developers have brought in recent patches. While the post also details the developers' thoughts regarding hero balances going forward, it offered no new information as to the returning of Bastion and Torbjorn to competitive games, who were removed from the ranked mode earlier in the week due to separate issues causing their abilities to function incorrectly.

While some players who main heroes such as Sombra, Genji, and Torbjorn have expressed some concern over the possibility of seeing tweaks made to their favorite characters, many of the clarifications made in the latest blog post have done much to ease the community. With the overhaul to competitive mode brought with Overwatch 2 along with some double XP weekends in the near future, players have much to look forward to throughout the season.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
