Overwatch 2 players discover a potential clue regarding when the long awaited PvE story campaign will launch. The upcoming PvE content for Overwatch 2 is expected to highlight several heroes and expand the competitive shooter's universe with additional lore.

When Overwatch 2 was first revealed in November 2019, Blizzard confirmed the new title would feature a story campaign starring the franchise's iconic heroes. Players may also team up to complete objectives on PvP maps in Hero Missions, which Blizzard described as "deeply replayable" content. The new PvE content was nowhere to be found during Overwatch 2's early access period leading into launch, however. Blizzard would clarify that the new PvE content would arrive sometime in 2023, and an exact launch date was not announced. While waiting for Blizzard to share more information, avid Overwatch 2 players may have discovered when the new PvE content might launch.

Twitter user FLX_nf and fellow Overwatch 2 fans discovered the first playable branch for Season 6 is now in testing at Blizzard, which may indicate the arrival of PvE content this August. The test branch indicates that new versions were detected, and users speculate that early testing is a sign of PvE's imminent arrival alongside a new hero in Overwatch 2. Several fans in the community believe PvE may arrive at the start of Season 6, but the possibility of a mid-season update remains due to the existence of various test versions.

If Blizzard sticks to its initial schedule, Overwatch 2 Season 5 will begin on June 13, and Season 6 will arrive sometime in August 2023. While investigating the test branch for information related to PvE content, Overwatch 2 players reportedly discovered a version with a date set for September 12. Players believe that the September 12 date may be the launch date for Season 6's mid-season update, narrowing down the launch window of Overwatch 2's PvE content to August and September.

The Overwatch 2 test branch may be a promising sign of PvE content coming soon. However, any developments regarding Blizzard's testing may not be finalized, so potential launch dates for the updates in testing are subject to change. Fans may want to wait until Blizzard publicly addresses its player base about future seasons of Overwatch 2.

Blizzard will reveal a new Overwatch 2 roadmap in the middle of May, so the wait for news regarding PvE content may be nearing its end soon. In the meantime, players may enjoy Overwatch 2 Season 4's new content such as the Lifeweaver support hero and the upcoming Starwatch event.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
